This is kind of a comedy of errors. I recall my old S3 being fairly buzzy but when I put the motor in my S2 (The Purple Nurple) and finally got around to finishing it up it vibrated worse than anything I've ever owned. Worse than my old Norton Atlas that was missing a head steady, it was that kind of vibration. During the motor swap I'd replaced the torn original front isolator with one of those HarLee ones that required that metal bushing to be reamed out to accept the 1/2 Buell bolt. I was thinking that must be the culprit and I ended up ordering an FXR-style courtesy of Drag Specialties on eBay. What I didn't know what that my rear isolators were beat but Sportyeric cleared that one up so I replaced the rear isolators and it was still vibrating like a sumbitch. What to do, what to do? The motor was beating the snot out of the bike and I was not too happy to put it mildly. I finally did a search and was reading this thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/702923.html and thought what else do I have to do, let's rip the front isolator out and stick the HarLee one back in. I sweated out last night's Chinese dinner and helped feed the neighborhood's mosquito population but I got it done, buttoned it up and took it out for a spin. I really wasn't expecting much. SUCCESS!!! Now it feels just like my other tube frame Buells and I'm in love once again. This really turned out to be a tremendous motorcycle and it's certainly done it's best to teach me some humility and make me a fairly decent S2 mechanic. I would not say that I'm an expert on them but I'm certainly getting familiar with their quirks! I'd also like to add that this forum is really a tremendous resource for helping us keep these treacherous old piles on the road. When I work on these I always think of The Last of the Mohicans... |

Good to hear Steverino. They have mosquitos in PA? Thought they all resided in WI, MN, Ontario I hope you become even better as the years tick by as I'll need the support when I'm out your way...former PA native myself...Spring Mount and before that Newtown Square, Ardmore, Wayne I enjoy your posts. |

We have zillions of tiny little ones that are just dying to turn into zillions of giant big ones. Another hobby of mine is tropical reptiles and my tortises are just covered with mosquitos but I don't think they can penetrate their skin - the stupid things are trying to draw blood through the shells! Yeah, sure, swing by. I think I'll specialize in tube frame isolator replacement, it's just so much fun! It was worth it, though, as it was just great to finally have this bike run smoothly, especially when I pulled out of the driveway expecting it to be like riding a jack hammer. |
