Not what I wanted to find. Time to order gaskets. I'll be rotating the engine tomorrow to get everything cleaned up and prepped. Any words of wisdom? |

Make sure the oil's not coming from somewhere else before you dive in. The PCV valves and/or hoses, mounted on top of the rocker boxes, have been known to get loose on occasion. Oil could be finding its way to that location somehow. Never heard of a blown head gasket on a stock Uly. |

Do everything from the base gaskets up. Pull the wrist pins and you can leave the pistons in the cylinders, and not have to hone and re-ring. |

Hughlysses - I'm about 95% certain it's the head gasket but I'll double check all the other possible areas too. Ratbuell - That's the plan, base gaskets up. I don't want to redo the work when an old re-used gasket fails! Thanks for the tip about the wrist pins. All in all, I'm glad I didn't sell it yet. I would hate to have something like this pop up on the new owner. |

So what is the "high mileage bike with known head gasket issue" still needs fixed price? |

Not sure. I have a guy from the BuellXB forum that is still interested. Wants to change the gaskets in my garage then ride off into the sunset. We haven't figured out a price yet. Interested? |

Helping a local friend hunt an XB... yours isn't a great fit for him, but he is mechanically inclined, so if the price starts to get compelling he might jump. And if the price hits the "cant stand to look at it anymore and want it out of the garage" level of compelling, I would consider buying it and fixing it and handing it around to friends and family to ride for months at a time just cause I can. (But for me to jump, the price would have to be somewhere between "tragic" and "comic" from your perspective. ). |

I would be more worried about your clutch cable boot torn and getting water in the trans than about that little leak. |
