Another way to reduce decel popping is take some fuel out of the area in the map where the decel occurs, i.e., TPS between 10-20 and 1500-5000 RPM. Basically the bottom two rows on the fuel map except the idle area. Don't go crazy.Take a couple of points at a time. You need to leave enough fuel to cool and lubricate the pistons. Yesterday was a mammoth – I pulled out the throttle body and swapped the injectors, in the process I replaced the injector o-rings (thanks to Precision HD/Buell in providence for having those in stock!), intake/manifold seals (getting the manifold apart was reaaaally difficult and took a lot of effort), got it all back together, did a TPS reset and fired the bike up. It was too late to take a ride, but everything seemed to look/sound OK. My throttle/idle cables are pretty gritted up and the throttle isn't snapping shut, as much as methodically shutting – thinking it's time to replace them. I plugged into ecmspy and compared notes with @Steveford's suggestions... I didn't notice anything too far out of place (I didn't reset the AFV from when it had been running before). Any guess as to # of miles before I should check plugs again?

I dunno but I do know that the tube frame Buells shut off the fuel delivery on deceleration below 3000 RPMs. It might even be 3500 but I'd have to look it up and I really could stand a shower. They had some clever guys working at Buell and then the otherwise unemployable relatives designed things like the S2 side stand and then moved on to Ulysses ECM location and things like that to keep them busy. |

"...tube frame Buells shut off the fuel delivery on deceleration below 3000 RPMs." That's a configurable setting and can be turned on/off if you have ECMSpy. The default is On. Not sure its such a good idea to completely shut off fuel delivery at decel. |

Rode from Providence to NYC last night and the bike feels so much better! Way more responsive and peppy. I'm still getting some decel popping, but seems like it really only happens while the bike is still warming up. So in case anyone's interested, here's a list of stuff I've done recently, in chrono order: *Repack muffler (winter) *Add catch can (winter) *Change engine oil/filter (spring) *New tires *Replace left peg (fell off on I95! *thanks for the help Jolly*) *Adjust primary chain *Adjust clutch cable *Adjust belt tension *New header gaskets *Change primary oil *Seal exhaust can inlet *New intake/manifold seals *New spark plugs *New spark plug cables *New injector O-rings *New throttle/idle cables *TPS reset It feels like a different bike. Best bang for buck was adjusting clutch/primary/belt, but it really felt like a new bike after I did all the seals/rings/plugs and put the new throttle/idle cables on. Now I just need to find some mountains to ride in! Luckily I have a wedding in NH I'm supposed to go to next weekend. Oh, and massive thanks to everyone on badweb for all your help and encouragement. So cool to be learning how to do this stuff, knowing that if I get in too deep I can get solid suggestions in short order. |
