Anyone have and thoughts on availibility or some type of retrofit or rebuild kit. My restoration is almost complete but would like at least the apparance of a rear brake | ||

You can use an S3 Nissan brake caliper if you get the swing arm mount bracket with it. | ||

Nissin, not Nissan. Build it right, bleed it right, and bed in the pads right...and you'll be able to J-slide the bike with your rear brake. At least, I can with all of my Buells... | ||

Uhhh..guys...He needs a MASTER CYLINDER, not a caliper. Have you tried American Sportbike or your Harley dealer? What is wrong with the old one? | ||

The bore size of a MC is paired with whatever caliper you use. They're a "matched set" if you will. | ||

I am using a stock S2 rear MC with a NISIN (if you are going to correct me, at least get it right) rear caliper. Works fine. I would use a NISIN rear MC but would need to make some sort of sleeved adapter to use the rod on the s2 setup. | ||

You are right. I didn't go to the website, I read it off the MC. I guess what looks like a s is actually a double s in a single s configuration. I am just a total fu who can't read or spell. Thank you for clarifying that for me. My point, however, is that either the original S2 MC (which I believe is a Brembo, mine have no markings on them that say Brembo so I could be wrong, but for sake of this discussion I will call it a Brembo) or the later Nissin MC (not the Nissan or Nisin), will both work with either the Brembo rear caliper (pretty sure about that name as it is stamped on the cylinder)or the Nissin rear caliper(see previous disclaimer). You will however, have to adapt the push rod on the Nissin MC (as stated, not the Nissan or the Nisin) to fit the S2 foot controls.  | ||

St Paul HD had a bunch of rebuild kits for the Bremo, try them. Somebody here should be able to track down the rebuild kit part number if that doesn't work and do a dealer search. Then you don't have to worry about how to spell that other one! | ||

If memory serves, Lance is the name of the guy who handles the Buell parts at St. Paul, and he is awesome to deal with. He helped me out of a big bind I was in when I first got my S1. Recommend him/them big time! | ||

I replaced my single piston S2 rear brake caliper and master cylinder with a dual piston unit off a 94 Ducati Monster. The master cylinder was a direct replacement with no modifications. I had to make a new mounting bracket for the dual piston caliper to fit correctly. It was time well spent as my S2 will now actually stop using the rear brake and the pedal "feel" is like it should be, where before it felt like I was pushing on a wood block. People say "well it's supposed to be like that because the front brake does all the work". That may be true on the track, but after 40 years of riding street bikes, i like to have a rear brake that works and has "feel" to it, especially when confronted with loose gravel or sand. The Ducati setup gives me what I was looking for.  | ||

Thanks for the update. Nice work you do. The reason I have a spare master cyl is that I too wanted better braking on the rear wheel and I purchased a modified master and installed it on my S2 when it had only 2000 miles on it. |
