I'll take 5. Are we at the minimum yet? A couple of my caps are difficult to remove in the unlocked position. Seems like the perimeter of the plastic on the cap gets hung up on the inside edge of the aluminum ring, which is rather sharp if you run your finger in there. I didn't want to deal with re-sealing the ring in order to remove and file down the sharp edges, so I lightly filed the plastic on the cap and it did improve, but still not exactly easy to remove the cap. Maybe I'll have to remove the ring after all and soften that inside edge...? |

Buelljunkie - I had to file and sand the plastic lower assembly to get it to fit better (on my S3T) still a little tight but at least it locks and unlocks with out a problem! I think maybe they swell a little after being exposed to the cheap fuel we have these days, new ones fit perfectly - if you can find one... |

Try loosening the nut a little. Your cap may be set too tight. |

Hootowl-I find as I get older my nuts seem to loosen themselves, but I'll try that. Not sure that's my problem, tho - the lock rotates freely 90 degrees, it just doesn't want to lift out Jolly-I barely took any material off when I filed the plastic the first time, I'll give it another go, and I'm sure it will be a liveable condition. You're right about the new keyless ones, tho - they work perfectly, and a very positive feel when you push the lever down, kind of a soft snap. Matrim-how close are we? Thanks guys.. |

I sanded down the edge of the plastic on the filler also as it had expanded and would lodge itself in the tank |

The problem is the ethanol in the gas. If you are able to purchase no ethanol high test (premium) the cap will shrink back to size. I filed mine down and when I changed fuels, its loose, but works. |

Forerunner - The buell gas caps end up stripping in the rotation portion of the assembly, the tab that you lift up and twist ends up orbiting out the plastic "groove" that it sits in so that it turns rather freely without actually turning the plastic assembly into the unlock and remove position..when this occurs you are screwed!...this piece fixes that by modifying the assembly..... I got stranded once at a gas station, fortunately close to home, almost out of gas and could not get the gas cap unlocked and open, fortunately I was close enough to home that I could go back home and trade out for a different bike (ahh the joy of multiple bikes!)...installed this and it works perfectly! |

Jolly, Explanation much appreciated! I figured it prevented some kind of failure but didn't know the specifics. No problems on my X1 yet but this sounds inconvenient at best. Saw so many others going in I figured I'd better as well. Glad I did! Nels |
