Greetings all...I have just been blessed with a beautiful 2006 Ulysses with only 17k on the clock. I have been having a ball riding this bike...it is happy to go, go, go! Well my only difficulty is when I used it for funeral escort in a Patriot Guard Mission. Keeping the bike at 10mph our less is a chore with a great deal of clutch lever action. I barely made it up a hill at the cemetery as traffic was down to 5mph all up hill. Again this Buell ownership is new to me...my Kawasaki Concours 1000 was happy to run 5mph. The uly just wants to pass everyone, not cool in a funeral escort. Is there something I can do to correct this issue?

Due to the gearing you are not really going to be able to keep it below 10mph without beating on the clutch. Swapping in the primary chain and gear from a XB9 will help a bit as it is a shorter ratio, and getting the bike tuned will also help, but it won't ever match the Connie.

Okay, thanks for the replies, XB9 primary swap will help with the gearing..how much will it sacrifice the fuel economy? And is it a fairly strait forward swap for your basic shade-tree mechanic?

I looked up in the classifieds and there is a listing for an xb9 gear reduction kit for the 08 and newer xb12...will this work on my 06 Ulysses? American Biker lists a kit, again '08 and newer...?

Ulywood57- the 08 kit will not work on your 06. The crankshaft sprocket is different on the 06/07 and 08-up bikes. Get the 06/07 kit for your bike, or just go to your dealer and order the parts Rwcfrank listed.

If all you do is parade or funeral duty, then go for the XB9 gearing. I admit I have never tried the lower gearing but I just got back recently from the Black Hills on Interstate 90 and I wish my 08 had another gear. To each his own I guess. Thanks!
