Hello, I am having a problem with my 1999 Buell X1 FI. I rebuilt the motor, cleaned everything and fixed/welded cracks in the air box. No check engine lights. I had the problem before I did any work to it. I thought for sure it was the cracks in the airbox. Runs great and then the gas light will come on and the bike dies, but bike will idle fine and rev up. The idle does go up and down. Thanks for your help. 832-984---5903

I do have a full tank of gas and filter is new. If it is the fuel pump would the fuel light come on? Thanks |

Some thoughts. The idle 'wandering' up and down is usually caused by leaking intake manifold seals. Given the bikes calendar age, probably worth changing. If you have access to ECMSpy, it would be worth checking for historic fault codes. The low fuel light/engine dieing would seem to point to a wiring issue with the pump. Before pulling the pump, I would check and clean every ground, including both battery cables. If you can get a fuel pressure test assy, see if it in fact loses fuel pressure when the engine dies. Hope this helps, Dave |
