Don't let him sleep on the floor again. You'll never hear the end of it. |

Brought my bike to Thunderbird yesterday for the first time in its life for service, and the first time for me in over 4 years for any service...I remember now why I stopped going there. my bike was due for its 31,500 check-up, and I wasnt expecting it to cost too much considering this one did not call for any valve adjustments. Good thing I asked and didnt just assume... According to the service rep, it was going to take 7.6 hours and cost over $900 to complete! I work with the wife of one of the Master-Techs there, so I asked him what all was going to cost so much. He was thrown at first too because he didnt see the valve adjustments on the list either... I guess this is the point where they want you to flush your coolant and re-fill with fresh stuff. I just did that not too long ago anyway, so I told them to hold off on the coolant flush. That lowered the price to $350... How do they charge $600 to drain and re-fill coolant??? They tried to get me for tires too, but they didn't have anything that I wanted, so I think I will head over to Moto-Authority for that. |

I had my Firebolt serviced at Chick's for it's first service at the end of the break in period. That's also when they installed my "free" race kit. The race kit install alone was $500. The first service was over $300. So, I was definitely not going to do that again. I subsequently started taking it to Santa Fe Harley for service. It was less expensive and they only did what you NEEDED to have done without trying to soak you for all you had. Later, they started offering unlimited mileage service plans. Three years, unlimited miles, all scheduled services included, $1500. I socked it to them on that one. I got it for the Firebolt first and had three major services done within that period plus a few oil changes. On the Uly, I bought one and within the first year had three major services. Still have two years to go on that one. Ed really killed them. He bought that service plan when he bought the TT new. He put over 15,000 miles a year on it each of the first few years. I think he got ten or more major services out of them. I know Bart does his own stuff. I'm not that handy, I guess. It's funny. I've done engine work before, so I know HOW to do it. I just don't LIKE to do it. It's worth the money to pay someone to take care of it so I'm free to do something else with that time. |

That is kind of how I feel...I am not that savvy with engines, but all the other stuff like oil, coolant, etc. I can do, just dont like to. I dont have the time, and I can afford to have someone else do it for me. I got the 3 year unlimited mileage pre-paid plan on my 1125. I got 5 total services done under it including the initial, plus 2 valve adjustments. my plan just ran out, and this was the first one I have had to pay out of pocket... just had a bit of sticker shock I was wondering if SFHD charged the same as TBHD... guess I know now that they arent as big headed up in SF. I hear that they still offer those plans and that you can buy more?? may be worth looking into as my next one will require valve adjustments again. |

Yeah, they are still available. I bought mine for the Uly right at the 15,000 mile mark. Paid for that service, plus the 20K, 25K, 30K. I now have 31,XXX on it. (edit) Oh, and I got two of those services on the road and Santa Fe paid for them. One was done by Hal's HD in Milwaukee and another by Brian's HD in Langhorne, PA. That would have been my other question... If I do move, I'd rather not have to bring the bike back to the servicing dealer which would be about 11 hours from where I would be moving to. so they honor them at other dealerships? or do you have to be "on the road" |

Well, I think you have to be "on the road." It's sold by SFHD for service at SFHD, but they will subsidize "on the road" services. I think I'm about to test the limits of that since I'm here in PA and will pretty soon need another service. |

Hey Doug, Very kind offer. I'm only looking for the left radiator cover(pod). I'd love to buy that from you but understand if you don't want to split the plastics up. Just curious, how much for all of it? |

Jody, If you only want one piece or all of it just make me a reasonable offer. It is in great used shape, no damage. Will look new if you polish it a little. |

I can pick it up in Taos, probably swap it out while I'm there. Is $70 too low? I'll bring some extra money with me and we can work it out there. I appreciate the opportunity. |

Jody $70.00 and maybe a couple of beers. Cj I still have the XR9R,two XR12R's. My accountant (wife) is strongly suggesting parting with them to make room for the 1125CR I just got. |

Coincidentally that is the only part I dont really want as I actually have another black fender that has not been used... just missing the other stuff. Most of my plastics have at least some scuffs or ware from saddlebags, wrecks, etc. I really just need to take the time to rub out the scuffs and re-polish |

Bob, what condition are they in? How much would you be willing to let go of them for?? and would you be willing to separate the set? My birthday is in a couple weeks and my wife said I can't buy anything for the bike until after that so that I dont duplicate her efforts. She knows I want a new left pod cover, so I dont want to spring on it yet, but if the price is right, I may be able to drop a few hints. |

Almost ready, rooms booked, XB with new front Q2, brake pads, oil changed. New 5-0dro axle and case sliders. Only other possible change, should I buy the EBR ecm or have my race ecm dyno tuned locally. Getting a lot of pinging/detonation when hot. And its hot a lot in Tucson. |

the EBR one will be tuned for someone's XB, not necessarily yours... you'd probably get better results with a Dyno... at least for your area. |

And it's a lot less hot in Northern NM and Southern Colorado. |
