Hey so I went and bought another x1 today 2000 so same year as mine but was pretty much stripped naked basically had frame tires and mechanical parts all fairings were ripped off(still had gas tank) no gauges or headlight or blinkers.. Not complaining because it was only 500$ and it runs still. Considering turning it into a drag bike or restore as I was thinking about doing my main one street/strip combo but now i could just do a main drag bike. Would post a pic up but not much to look at lol but I will def post progress pics. Does anyone have any opinions on this? |

Awesome deal. I'm hopefully picking one up this weekend so I'll have a lot of parts for sale if you're interested. Nick |

good platform to start with, as you wont need blinkers and headlight etc. where you race at and with who (organization)? |

Reep - Is the first picture an X1? Looks like the frame, especially around/under the seat area, has been modified significantly. Really like it. |

Hard to say. I found it looking for the second picture (google images and search for "x1 cafe". I liked it better than that second one I was looking for, which I also really liked. I agree, that first one looks like a more beautiful Norton, a thing I would have argued was impossible had I not seen that one. |

I would be racing at Lancaster speedway(Lancaster,NY right outside of buffalo NY). I don't race with anyone it would be my first drag bike I really like the look of that pic though hybrid... What is that swingarm made of I'm assuming its custom made? And how long is it? Also does anyone know if you can stroke out one of those v twins? Not real familiar with them. Just noticed he has nos on it how much does he run? (Message edited by Tll130 on July 27, 2013) |

Opinions you asked for. Okay:- I owned a Datsun car once and the cost of spare parts outweighed all affordable logic because it was cheaper to buy whole cars. (Message edited by alfau on July 28, 2013) |

Ok what does this have to do with a drag bike? I don't see the relation? |

Ok - for a drag bike, the wheelbase is too short really on any Tuber for a hard launch, in my opinion, . So, like the picture shows - lengthening the swingarm will improve directional stability. Increase of Rake slightly, while maintaining Trail close to 4" will also help. You are turning a bike that was designed to "Own the corners" into something that can at least lease a fast, straight line. The long swingarm necessitates going to chain drive, a good idea anyway since you can tweak your gearing. Tune for shift recovery point - that is, make maximum power at the point in the RPM band that the tach hits immediately after a shift. Are you thinking of doing brackets or heads up? And - the relationship between Datsuns and Buells - for some reason, Buells right now are worth less when assembled than when broken down for parts. Your purchase underscores that fact. THis is a great situations for racers and customizers to be in. To stroke a V-Twin - you change the flywheels, moving the crankpin closer to the perimiter - which makes longer stroke. Depending on what you are tuning for, that may or may not be the best way - you could make an argument for short stroke, big bore, to make it rev faster instead. |
