I noticed there is a thin layer of oil on the engine case. Does anyone have an idea where it is coming from?

Michael, from personal experience, the most probable locations are your starter motor gasket, stator plug, or - as in my case - the starter motor itself. Also check above for a leaky rocker gasket dripping oil down. Carefully power spray that area till clean and check ever day or so with a flashlight to get a better idea of the source. DB |

Clean it real good and let it dry. Spray it with talcum powder, like Desinex. The powder will keep the oil from running and you can see where it's coming from. |

If you're getting oil in the airbox, like most of us do, it can run down the back of the engine and make it appear to be leaking from somewhere in that area. One thing that's worth a try and I might do this myself is research some of the threads about modifying the crankcase and oil tank breathers to eliminate those nuisance leaks. |

Check the neutral indicator. It is buried in there. Mine had started to back out after 40k miles. Looked similar to the mess you have due to air flow around engine. If loose just tighten and u will be good. |
