I have a pre-recall WP shock with the progressive rate spring (S2/S3 iirc) and am looking for someone to trade or sell me their straight rate spring (S1/M2, the spring that was too light for two-up and heavier riders) thanks, I know it's like a needle in a haystack but I know there are still some out there! |

I also have the spring out of the 16" first recall showa, but it looks to be too small ID to fit....shame since the rate on it was pretty good for my weight. Once i get my press set up I'm going to try it. |

I believe Traxxion Dynamics used to carry springs that fit...or can get them. |

As far as I recall all the WP shocks had the same spring rate fitted regardless of model. You would be better off getting a decent replacement shock built than using what is already a flawed design. |

They may have had the same in/lb rate, BUT there was a progressive-wound and a straight wound, and it's pretty easy to tell them apart visually. Sure, if money were no object I would have a Penske, but just for arguments sake, (banter really, if I wanted a less-flawed design I certainly wouldn't choose an old buell!!) why do you think the WP shock is any more flawed than all the rest of the options? Just the fact of it being a pull-shock **is the flaw** I would argue, and as similarly flawed as the showas and all other options. Anyways, I like mine (except for the progressive wound spring), I like it alot more than the previous long showa I have had, and a little more than the short one I've used. Talk to the folks at Race Tech, they recently rebuilt my WP, spring and all for about $400. A bit on the pricey side, I know, but it was worth it to me to run the "supposedly flawed" shock. I'll bet you can purchase a spring from them... Good Luck! |

That's really good to hear about racetech, and I will call and get a price for a spring... |

why do you think the WP shock is any more flawed than all the rest of the options? The WP shocks were recalled because some broke! That makes them worse than the Showa shcoks, which were recalled because they might break (big difference). Having said that, the whole premise of the 'pull' shock was flawed because the shocks flexed at maximum lenght, which then reuined the seals and made the shocks leak. Almost all of the shocks are likely to do this, including expensive aftermarket options. The difference is that you can get Penske etc rebuilt quite easily, whereas the Showa was never designed to be rebuilt and the WP was inherently weak. Much as I like the look of the WP shock I would NOT want to ride a bike with one fitted, just incase......You may even invalidate your insurance in the event of a crash if they find out you are using a shock that should have been recalled and destroyed |
