Until I saw it in the flesh, I thought it was a gay concept. It really isn't a bad looking bike. Should've been a 12 tho and they could've iced the date/lot quality code markings molded in. |

Black and Blue Clash though, should have been a clear yellow or even red, or dark blue bike !! CJ |

The markings are an ISO requirement. CJ, as we talked about I too agree that 1 color should have been used. The front fender as well as the chin spoiler should have been see thru also. Sure it would be a bigger pain to clean, but the exhaust & front tire would have been cool to see. |

I would love to trick out one of those at my graphics shop! I could remove all the decals and stickers and blast all the graphics right into the plastic for a total ghost image concept. Then I would light up the lid with LED's so the blasted graphics would glow. It would be sweet! |

It is kind of neat in the flesh. It would be real easy to bling out with blue LED's, etc. Might even look right if done tastefully. Fun little bike to ride. Great seating ergos, very plush seat. However, it screams for the 1200 motor... Brad |

"The markings are an ISO requirement." Well, I dunno. I'd bet that the ISO requirement is for a traceability system of some kind. I doubt there is a requirement to hang 4 nickel sized lot/date clocks in about the most conspicuous place on the cover. It's probably the same place they are in the mold for the non-transparent covers, and driven by cost (I sure hope that's the reason). Still, they look tacky as all heck where they're at. If they'd had total placement freedom, they should have placed them at the mounting locations for the X "brace". I think the cityX is a dandy styling treatment/marketing plan for a "Bold New Graphics" year. But I do hope there is a larger ST Buell in the future. I got to sit on one at F&S Buell. I really like the new seat, and like the overall look as well. It's on my short list. |

>>>>I too agree that 1 color should have been used. I did some checking and apparently Mike, the Chief Designer, tried calling you 5 or 6 times and kept getting your machine. Desperate to get the bike built in time to avoid the onslaught of "late intro" criticism they had no choice but to venture ahead without your approval, relying solely on input from owners, observations and marketing data. I put a call into Yamaha today and left message that as a non-owner, who knew an owner, and had views I'd like to make certain they not screw up the design of the next R1. I expect they'll be bustin'a a nut to get back to me.

First thing I did when I saw one in person was to look close at those date/code wheels to see if they were for trim pots under the lid. Be neat if they were for "on the fly" adjustments for altitude or riding conditions. Normal riding: 5-5-5-5 Drag racing: 5-8-7-4 Road racing: 5-7-9-6 Bar hopping: 9-4-3-1 Or something like that. I have a suspicion what the big "X" is for on the top cover but will wait on the official word. My next bike has to be for two-up riding. |

Yes! We have a close scheduled for the end of this month, which is a huge relief. Wonder if it bolts through the cover, or just sticks on top... |

The rubber "X" guard is to keep Tank Bag from scratching tank cover.Don said Blue plastic is soft enough to scratch easily.Place on Ebay sells clear plastic, cut to size for protection.Am installing on my Tuono today to see how it looks.By the way,any SCal'ers out there want to do Glendora Ridge Route on Saturday?? |

The CityCross negiotiations have not yet begun in earnest, but that would be my goal. Gotta get past the closing first... The current interest rates will work in my favor, a trade in would actually make pretty good sense right now. |
