Every gas station between CA and PA has plenty of beef jerky. Just remember to drink LOTS of water with that stuff. |

Hey guys, I will not be making the gathering this year, but don't be surprised if you see my white and blue S2 there. It's been sold, and the new owner looks like a promising S2 enthusiast. he already knows about the gathering, so hopefully you will see him there. I will miss you all, have fun, and don't forget to post pics!!! |

OK, so...here's an issue. I would LOVE to go to this - really love it. In my wasted youth, throwing a leg over a bike and going to the other side of the country was something that happened every year or so. But California to Pennsylvania (and back) on any bike, even one as comfortable and amenable to touring as Rhonda is, sounds a bit...ambitious. - not to mention expensive in hotel/food/whatnot. Considering the following plan - load Rhonda into the Van of Love and heading east. Establish Base Camp near Rally site - go riding, do the Johnstown thing, load up, go home. This feels a bit like all those folks who trailer their baggers to Sturgis - but I don't see it working otherwise. I will throw it open to this esteemed crew - is this going to get the energetic and road worthy Rhonda a false reputation as a trailer queen? |

There were bikes trailered to Arkansas for last years rally and no one gave it a second thought. There is a LOT of straight flat nothing tween the west and the east. I am probably not going to do it this year after two years in a row crossing the great plains. Instead my wife on her S3 and me on my S2 are planning a two week jaunt down the west coast through the redwoods and the Sierra Nevada's. |

Lynrd, No problem! If it means another S2 showing up, I don't care if it is parachuted in! Like Shane said, Kansas is one looonngg straight state! Mike |

We were pleased as punch with the concept of shipping the bike and flying in order to make the Arkansas ride. The cost was less than the wages lost in days off traveling that distance, not to mention meals and lodging. We also trailered part way to the Texas ride. Don't think anyone thought the less of us for it. |

Well, the weather is finally turning, so time to get this going again... I'll be finalizing routes, and other details in the next couple of weeks. |

I'm headed out tomorrow for the weekend to ride the routes and finalize them. Should have some info and pictures to post to get this thing rolling and get a roll call started. |

I've been piling miles on the ol' S2 recently to make sure she's all shook down and ready to ride...should have the next maintenance out of the way before the rally, planning to be there all shined up with fresh oils and adjustments If anyone from far away is considering it, but can't figure the logistics...I *might* have an S3 Defender roadworthy in time as a stand-in ride...find your way to Maryland and we can ride to the rally |

Ooh the irony.. My house in Minneapolis closes on the 18th (knock on wood) and I will be dragging my belongings, including both S2s back to Vermont at that time and will probably miss it this year. |

OK. Well, I just made it back from 1,200 miles of riding roads to finalize the routes for the ride! That was my first big ride of the year, and I'm feeling it now! I had all of my preliminary routes plotted out on Harley's trip planner. But, after this weekend's ride, I'm going to need to edit that to reflect some of the new roads that I discovered this weekend. I found a few roads that I'd never been on that filled in some gaps that I had in the route. You never really think much about what it takes to plan out a route. I now have a MUCH greater appreciation for those that have put on rides. Between finding good roads (without too many non-twisty bits connecting everything) , making sure to have a station with premium fuel every 100 miles, or so (for those that come with less fuel capacity than an S2), places to eat, etc... It keeps you thinking... I'll try to get some pictures that I took along the route, and some maps posted up here tomorrow night. As, I'm beat now... For now though, let's start the roll call... Buffalobolt Ratbuell OK, who else is coming?! |

OK! I've been trying to map the routes out on Harley's Road Guide, and it is REALLY pi$$ing me off! I'll save it, work on something else, and when I come back to it, it says there is an error because I didn't choose a public route! On state highways!! Anybody have any suggestions on other public mapping sites to plot this out where I can post it on here? |

I bought a garmin nuvi, one of the new ones and it allows you to drop pins and build routes on the web then load the map to your GPS as a route or save a route as way points while riding....I just save every intersection then rebuild it in the route function, I think it can even save a route you just did but havnt played with that function. my other one would only save three waypoints to a route, this one will do over 100 or something like that, then save a route as a full file. its worth the coin! |

Here are a few pictures to look at while I try and get maps posted up.
The first picture is of the Kinzua Bridge. At one time, it was the longest railroad bridge in the US. A tornado took out the center spans in the 80's. I have it as a planned stop on the Northern Loop. The second picture is of "Pennsylvania Pyramid's" on the Tionesta Creek. |

Well crap! I guess those are all of the pictures that you get for now! I just managed to delete them all from my phone while working to post them up here! Sorry, technologically challenged! I guess I should have had my kids do it! Anyways, I'll be going through there again at the end of the month and will take more shots. For those that like to see some sights on the way in, or out, there are a couple of places that come to mind. Drakes Well (first oil discovery in US), and Pithole City (ghost town site from the oil discovery) are located about an hour to the west of St. Mary's, near Titusville, PA. The Zippo lighter/Case knife museum is in Bradford, PA which is about 30 miles north of St. Mary's. And, the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon is about an hour to the east, off of Rt 6. |

Well, I managed to find one more shot on my camera (lost ones were on my phone). This is a shot at the beginning of one of my favorite routes. Rt 666. It's also one of the roads on the AMA ride guide.

Ive got a wedding right around the corner, and planning an after wedding trip coast to coast on the streetglide (gotta keep the Mrs happy and comfy) but this sounds like a lot of fun, if I can work it out we might be in on the s3t, timing is tough though... |
