Hey Ebear, thanks for posting these great pics. I do want to comment on Don's-have I got a used car for U- new bike. When I first saw the ads for the City X, I really though the whole concept was bit over the top, and a bit dumb looking. HOWEVER, now that I have seen it in person, that blue tank and screen is really cool. It is like a clear plastic. It caught a lot of attention on our ride and very positive comments. I am impressed! They carried the blue theme through out the bike, from the dash to the back tail plate, it all works. |

Ebear & Scott What a great ride. Glendora ridge road is awesome. So long Palomar this is my new favorite road. We need to ride this road again soon. Ferris, Dr. Steve, Sparky, Viros and Victor this road is for you. This is nice half way location for all SCAB'ers and Glendale Brag members. Maybe we can set up ride to Glendora ridge road soon. |

Don, i rode the GMR on the BLURR back in '98, with Charlie Ballesteros on his S1, on our way to Del Mar. it had just reopened after having been closed for quite some time (years?) due to storm damage. really had fun on it! that was about the time i started truly realizing what SoCal has to offer to a hard-core sportbike junkie, and it wasn't long before California gained another resident. so, see you and RLean at Oktoberfast??? Whew!! From Hemet to Vegas to and back to Hemet in 21 hours! Yesterday My Mom called and I realized I had totally forgotten her birthday. I felt really bad because she is a great Mom and always thinks of little cool things to do for me. So I was going to send flowers to her but realized I probably would not be able to on no notice. I decided to drive out there and buy her dinner, saw the Buell sitting there and said screw it. The ride up was un-eventfull, it got a little hot but I kept moving so no big deal. When I got to the house my Mom and step Dad were gone, so I called his cell and told him I would meet them at a steakhouse we know. I left my Buell parked there and rode to the steak House on my Dads SuperHawk. I hid in the parking lot until they got out of the car. She was so surprised that it took her a minute to process everything.. I crashed on their couch and left this morning with my step-dad, (he commutes on his bike) at about 4:30 am, he woke me up getting ready for work and I knew that I would not be able to sleep, so I came home. |

This Sunday is the American Sport Bike BBQ (Aug. 29th). Jerry "one wheel" Johnson is sponsering a ride to the BBQ from his new dealer, located only 1/2 a block from Biggs HD Buell where he used to work. The address is 1639 So. Coast Hwy, in Oceanside. He plans on leaving at 9:00 AM. Should be a great ride. As they all are when JJ does a ride! Scott Page |

On again... Off again... On again... WE FINALLY got the beast running and we're out at Willow for engine (On-Track "Dyno" and suspension setup and tuning in preparation for Las Vegas F-USA in 2 weeks. Some weirdness at about 5,000 and 5,500 rpm but suspension was SCHWEEEET. Todd (Sportbike Track Time) let me add the Intermediate session because doing the computer tuning, I'd only get 2-3 laps per advanced session - so he lets me run both. So, there I am in Intermediate after my 2 laps, thinking I'm heading in to the pits for a slight change in the map again... signalling that I'm going to exit the track - hanging off the right side of the bike in turn 8 (a FAST right hander normally about 140-160 mph) so my raised leg is almost horizontal - NO DOUBT about my intentions and this dummass (can I say that Blake?) This DUMMASS is following me around the outside of Turn 8- meaning we are WAAAY outside of the racing line. Coming into turn 9 (my exit is to the left) he decides (after following me for freaking near a half mile through turn 8 at maybe 70 mph!!) he's gonna try a pass in mid-turn (keep in mind, the front straight is just 50 yards ahead of us now) and he pulls to our right and RIGHT INTO THE RACING LINE!!! (I still haven't seen him yet) 2 buddies of mine are ripping around the track RIGHT THERE - they held their lines but he freaked out and stood up and ran right into me - HARD. NOW I see him! - he contacts me with his front wheel about at my knee - WHAM! and I'm on the ground, the bike sliding and me - tumbling again. By that time, I've slowed maybe down to 60 or so... It was gentle as far as low-side tumbles go and as the dust clears, I'm surprised there isn't a second rider down but I'm freaking FURIOUS to be crashed by such a squidly maneuver. I've crashed often enough but this is the first time I'm MAD and mad WHILE I'm still tumbling. The bike is still running, the flags are out so I trot back, shut the bike down and say to myself "there goes Vegas - I'm screwed" Load the bike in the crash truck and I'm just seething and wanting to make sure that doofus gets talked to. No excuse for what he did. He didn't get hit so there was NO reason for him to pull into me. The 2 guys passing this little scene were pitting with our Buell group and they told me it looked like he just decided to straighten up and run right into me from their perspective. We hit hard enough that he has blue marks on his leathers and fairing from my leathers. Not fun. In the pit, we're looking it over and Tim Hurley (Tim of the Tim and Candice Golden State BRAG fame) is saying to me - we can get my stock forks, call Mario down at Glendale and get the munched controls out with him when he comes out on Sunday, put on my spare front wheel and be back on the track in the morning. Well, I'm bummed, wanting the world to feel sorry for me and so I'm thinking (urinary expletive deleted) on this, I'm farcking DONE - for MONTHS now. I was broke $10,000 dollars ago and now THIS. Tim - bless him - just starts talking me through it saying he's bored outta his mind because his rear shock hasn't gotten back from Penske and he'll do all the work if I just let him so... just get him the parts and let him loose. Sunday mid-morning, the busted pieces are duct-taped back together, zip-tied in place, the stock forks are back on - we've re-checked the timing and fuel map. We duct-taped the elbow on the leathers back together and taped the right knee slider and knee back in place and I'm through tech and in another 10 minutes I'm back out testing! We still had a hole in the fuel map that I didn't catch during proof-reading and she's still rough right at the same spot but she's running - and predictable!!! Today (Tuesday after Labor day) is loads of phone time to Buell racing to explain what we have on the dyno and what I feel in the throttle on the track and agree that we're going to bump up the fuel pressure (high pressure fuel regulator is in the mail as I type) and will re-map to eliminate the hole at 5000 and 5500 rpm, send the bent forks to Max at Traxxion Dynamics for straightening and thanks to Sunny's Visa card, we're GONNA MAKE VEGAS!!! Woooo HOO!!! Today I call CCS back up to Un-Cancel my pre-registration, overnight mail my race license application, call Buell Racing back to tell them we'll SEE YOU IN VEGAS!!! Yeeee HA! Gonna be the oldest racer in F-USA in Vegas (well, they're checking ages on the other applications to verify that claim) (if anybody asks, tell them "Crashing Sucks" I can't say enough about the good folks of the Golden State BRAG group for pitching in (heck, half the Club was there out to play for the two track days), to Mario and Glendale HD/Buell for (as usual) being there for me and being enthused and grabbing the replacement bits and pieces in time for me on Sunday and as always, Earl Kellerman and Jeff Ecklund from Bartels who spent the day helping after the Bartels bike cracked its exhaust. Stay tuned - the saga is only beginning - FINALLY! Steve Slaughter Lavin-Yurassov Racing is ALIVE!!! |
