I've done it for years now. Its rather a pain in the ass thing to do until you have really ironed out your setup. there is a Lot of mess involved, and is very time consuming unless you are doing mulitple pieces. For the first 10 pieces you do, enthusiasm pushes you through it and you seem to feel that its way easy... but after youve done about 25 pieces... you'll be wanting to stick to a nice paint. LoL. I HAAATE sand blasting with a passion. | ||

You need the gun Powders Tape/plugs Dedicated oven (habitat for humanity) There's a lot of initial investment but well worth it in my opinion. | ||

I've done it for a few years. Bought a PC gun from Caswell. I modified a regular kitchen oven for the small parts.  I also fabricated a bigger one for the big parts (4x4x4).  It runs on two 220V outlets and has 18600 watts of oven elements. The temperature control unit I built uses a PID and two solid state relays, I can use it on either oven.   I did my X1 subframe and swingarm with it, it's great for big parts.  Like Foximus said, the preparation part is a lot of work, and you can't cut corners or you'll end up with crappy results. | ||

So whats involved in the prep. Does that mean I need a sand blaster?, chemicals? The ovens the easy part,and I can paint. Just thought of trying PC . | ||

ive been powdercoating for a while. Started off with a house oven and eastwood gun. have since upgraded to a larger home built oven and more of a professional gun with fluidizing hopper. Works great heres my oven i built  every piece of my bike was powdercoated in this oven (Message edited by purpony on February 02, 2013) |
