its only been a couple of days since I installed the starter gasket (HD part number 31488-81C)and I can see that it is leaking again. I know that its the starter gasket thats leaking since the oil thats sitting under the starter is nice fresh oil that was poured into the primary when I buttoned it up. I was thinking would it be ok to double gasket the starter? or what could be causing this persistent leak? |

I saw your post: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/689647.html would of never thought of that. I did a search here on badweb and can see that others including you say that you just sealed up the plug. I'm assuming that I can pull off primary cover again and pull the plug from the inside of the primary.... gob on some RTV, wait 24 hours, push back through hole, bolt up the Primary and pour in some oil. |

This is also an issue for 2004 and up Sportsters (same basic design). Mine wobbled in the hole. Clean it real good with brake clean before you rtv. I put the RTV on the plug and installed before dry. Let it dry in the hole. Mine has been dry for almost 10k now. You can do it all from the primary side. (Message edited by BPT on March 26, 2013) (Message edited by BPT on March 26, 2013) |
