Hey how are you guys doing today. I was wondering if anybody had some good advice for my 2006 XB12SS. First I put hawk muffler on it. It ran fine (felt like it lost a little bottom power but fine). Then I did the breather reroute. It ran Fine. Then I did the swiss cheese airbox. It ran fine. Lastly, I put a K and N air filter in it. Then it all went bad. First, it would crank fine and I could drive on down the road for about 15 min then it would backfire and cut off. It would not crank for about 5 min. And when I did it would run fine for a while. Next, I tried a TPMS reset. Nothing change. Lastly, I tried a few different fuel maps, being sure to do a TPMS reset in between and now its even worse. Even the stock map is worse now. Do you think it is related to the mods. Will they make the bike run lean. Or maybe something else? I'm stummped. |

Check your crank position sensor and associated wiring. Unfortunately, it's hard to check without a scope. Fortunately, it is easy to check with a scope. They do fail, so if you buy a replacement and swap it in and it doesn't fix the problem, you then have a spare to bring along on road trips. Better to check it properly, but if that's just not an option, then you have a spare. Mine failed at about 22k miles on my 07 Uly. |

Exhaust mods can be different for different bikes. I don't think your intake has anything to do with it though. Probably shouldn't have changed the fuel maps either, or atleast you consut someone who know exactly how to tinker with that. It would be wise to use a propane torch (not lit) and check for intake leaks around the flanges, etc and look for other exhaust leaks. Best of luck. |
