Okay, well I have seen it mentioned a couple times about a little welding and fab to strengthen the tuber front motor mount area like the X1s which came done up from the factory. What all is involved with this and does anyone have any pictures? I cant find any good information on what I need to do. My frame will be getting powdercoated in a month so I am trying to get all the fab work done ahead of time. Thanks, Spencer |

If it were mine, I would bring the frame to a welder to get a tube of the right diameter welded in. I don't think it would be "rocket science" to place it - the location appears pretty much obvious when you look at it. I mean, once you see the later frames with the extra tube, then you look at the older ones, it looks like there is a piece missing. |

Are you talking about the frame tubing that connects the left side of the frame with the V shaped down tubes that hold the front heim joint, or the extra heim joint at the top of the frame on the 99+ X1 and S3? |

Im prettyh sure the tubing connecting the two sides of the frame, I actually dont really know what the difference is thats what I have asking. I just have seen in a few threads people mentioned strengthening the frame up near the front motor mount on the older tube frame bikes like the X1. So the X1 has both an extra tube in the frame and an extra heim joint? I plan on keeping this bike forever and am gonna be powdercoating the frame so I want to get everything done before so I dont have to make changes later down the road Thanks, Spencer |

I think the later year M2s (2000 - up maybe) have the extra frame member, they are just missing the heim joint. What model year is your M2 |

99, so I need the frame member and the heim joint. Does anyone have a picture of them? |

I'm not sure about the year. Look around on the site - look on the buell picture thread and see if you can determine by looking at some of the other bikes if yours has the extra frame member or not. Like Fahren said - it is obvious when you see one of them without the extra member - it definitely looks like something is missing that shouldn't be. |

First pic has no brace second pic you can see the brace from the frame to the front v mount tube. You could have one made that bolts or shall I say clamps on? Just an Idea (Message edited by s1owner on December 12, 2012) |

just to play devil's advocate: real world riding, how noticeable is that brace? I also ask because the part that the extra brace ties in to the main frame is technically **not** a motor mount, but a tie-rod mount which keeps the motor torquing/rocking/vibrating in a certain plain, not load bearing in the same way the rubber mounts are. so, i've been back and forth about welding one in for years and ultimately decided i'd rather not have it from a purely aesthetic perspective. |

Well apparently the 99+ models have the brace on them, I was confused as to where the bar would go from looking at my bike.....but thats because it already has it ha. Thanks for the pics s1owner. On the X1 extra heim joint, where does it attach to on the motor/frame? Thanks, Spencer |

It actually is a motor mount. As you say, it keeps the engine from moving in the horizontal plane with respect the the fame. The engine is a stressed member. Front wheel is connected to the frame, rear wheel is connected to the engine. |

It goes from the front engine bracket to a tab welded to the frame near neck. M2s may not have the mounting provision in the front mount. I'm on a phone so I can't post a picture. I will do it in the morning. (Message edited by Hootowl on December 12, 2012) |

Since I have a M2 I never thought much about that missing link on my bike. That brings up another question does anyone know if the bikes with the tye rods have a greater incidence of mount failures? |

Hootowl, thanks for the pictures. It looks like my M2 engine mount has an extra hole for an additional tie rod to be mounted up. Does anyone have a better picture of where the additional tie rod mounts to the frame and the bracket it mounts too? Thanks, Spencer |

my m2 came with the bracket just a small tab hole i put an extra tye rod from motor mount to the bracket, same as my friends X1. could not notice a great deal of difference normal riding. then a few months latter i got a stenzel bar that goes from the top tye rod to front issolator. & there was a noticible gain in steering & feel bike feels a whole lot better to ride steer corner. it stops forward to rear movement. if i had a choice between this bracket weld or stenzel bar i'd take the stenzel bar first. but they both help. |
