I have a cherry 96 S1, with only 3,000k on it. Due to lack of employment, I may need to sell it. But after seeing the current prices for them today, would I get more "bang" for my buck, by just parting it out?
I would hate to destroy a beautiful Bike....but whatever can get me the most bucks!!
Blue Book for this Bike is $2,500. Just the engine itself is worth double that, as a "stand alone"!! Let alone the REST of the Bikes parts, on top of it!
But kept as an ENTIRE Bike....it ain't worth squat.....?????
It all seems kind of backwards to me.....but will do what needs to be done. Opinions??

DERN IT!!!!

I cannot part with Her. Whole or otherwise. Just too much history behind the Bike.

I want to put Her in my living room! Even though the sofa, would need to go......

I will starve to death.....looking at MY....Buell Lightening!!! That Bike has NO match!! Maybe in speed.....but it is the equivelant of the "split window" Corvette.....in Motorcycle's!!!

I don't think the '96 S1 was named "Lightening"

Sorry.....LIGHTNING!

No spell check! Not to mention I "fat finger" the keyboard.....but YES.....

They WERE Lightnings! I just wonder where the payoff is, apparently there is not ANY!!! Of keeping a piece of history intact. I will not live anywhere long enough to see that.......but will enjoy the bike nonetheless....

Thanks for not parting it out! Somebody somewhere will be really thankful for that someday...

Yes you may be able to make more money selling the bike as parts , but your value on the engine alone sounds a bit exaggerated. The S1 is something that should be saved for other to enjoy. My S1W is the one bike that stirs my soul better than all other bikes I own or have ridden.

You can get more then 2500$ for your bike If you sell it in Canada come spring. You can get at LEAST $5,000 in Canada for a 96 S1.

If you are hard up for coin wait till may post it in major cities in Canada for $6500 and take no less then $5000

Don't part it out. Its a rare low production classic. If you do you will be elevating the price of the remaining ones.

Ordinary M2s with 3 or 4 times that mileage bring 3500 where I live, that would be worth a $40 listing on Ebay. Someone would really enjoy getting it, and I don't blame you if you want to keep it

M2 and s1 in my area go for 2500- 3500 but that is with 20,000 or so on the od you should pull 5,000 if you wait for a good buyer i paid 2500 for the same bike beat to shit with 21,000 on it!
If you could keep it do it!

I would not sell it either. I have 12k into my X1 and would never dream of selling it! It's only worth $3500.00 here also. I have seen them go for 5000.00 but only when they are parted out. which takes a lot of time.

Hang on to it, if you don't you will have nothing but regret when you do get employed. Then it will cost you more to replace it and you will want to replace it. Trust me I speak from experience.

Sorry about the Ramen noodle crack...
