So my mustang is stranded in my gf's apartment parking lot due to electrical issues and I am trying to ride my bike to get parts, work, etc. I noticed it was really harsh over bumps and sounded really clunky. Checked my shock when I got back and there is oil all over teh bottom of it. it looks like it is going unfortunatly. Is it dangerous to ride right now? I need to ride about 80-160 miles tomorrow to pick up a new car and I also need to take my gf to work on it. |

Just be careful not to hit any jumps, it will be very bouncy. Hitting potholes at higher speeds will increase your chances of bottoming out. I wouldn't classify this as dangerous, but it will definitely be hazardous if you don't pay attention to what your bike is doing. Go slow and be safe! |

I think shock oil puking on the back tire could be considered dangerous. Is it empty or still leaking? |

The ride would be mushy and the handling poor. If you want to ride it, that's your call but don't exacerbate the situation by putting a passenger on too. just my .02 |

You can do what you want with it, just keep in mind they put fluid in there for a reason (to make it work). I certainly wouldn't put a passenger at risk, though. |

When the retaining ring fails it will score the cylinder bore. Rebuild asap. |

Yeah, i had to ride it 180+ miles yesterday since my car was down. It puked oil on some guys driveway i bought a new car from. I'm not going to ride it until i et a new shock. Anyone know where to get the best deal on a shock? I would like to upgrade if it's not too much more. I know werks is good and I wont spend on a penske since I live in florida and dont track ride yet. Are there any quality rebuilt units that perform better then stock? Google yields so few results when you search for anything for an x1... |
