Ok so a couple days ago I had some work done on my 99 x1, and i wanted to take her for a a spin. Drive terrain seemed normal the first 15 seconds I was attempting to leave my parking lot, but then the bike just died? not sure why. I noticed this anytime I tried to put the bike in gear from the neutral position, followed by a slight jolt. I walk the bike back to my garage and I chalked it down to the kickstand switch. That wasn't the issue. Last night I just found out it was my clutch was sticking, I can't disengage it at all. i tried to adjust the tension on the cable, assuming it was loose with too much slack causing the plates to stick, but that didn't make any difference. So then I checked the basic mechanism and adjustment screw, but still, it doesn't want to let go. Even after going through the recommended trouble shoot methods from the manuel, I couldn't find a thing. NEED HELP, any thoughts? |

id pull the plugs and rock it back n forth trying to get into or outa gear. Try to find out if its the cable or the clutch. Hope its just the cable needs lube. good luck |

It goes in and out of gear just fine when the engine is not running. its when the engine is running and i put it in first gear and it dies. Imagine putting your bike into first gear with out the clutch in and having that little jolt and then the engine dies. The clutch cable is brand new and the clutch actually does appear to disengage, i can hear the plates seperating and coming back in. Its got me thinking thats for sure. |

try a clutch adjustment, again. What did the mechanism look like when you had the cover off . (Message edited by 01x1buell on December 01, 2012) |

1) Bike runs now, thanks AKBUELL, I did jump the switch and I had to idle the bike for about 35 mins to warm the oil up enough to burn the sludge off the clutch, but that was stuck too. I will get a new switch soon. From his post in 99 x1 idle problems. |
