So I finally got my EBR ECM and got some garage time (actually he's probably just desperate for me to get it out) at my brother's to fiddle with the ECM install.

Relocated it so I won't have to do this again. I ended up (per instructions from the folks at EBR) getting the mapping for the Buell® Motorcycle Co. Pro Series muffler...Even though I run Stock. I did let them know that I'm running stock. (Stock doesn't seem to be offered for the 06-07 even though at least a few people here on the board seem to have these years with stock and EBR ECM.)

Got it in, did the TPS reset. per this very helpful video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i33__Qkvhn4

It seems to idle rough... to say the least....moving back and forth between 950 and 1150+ rpm...(especially cold). Not consistently, it will gradually increase RPM to about 1500 and then drop down to around 1000 before beginning the process again. I'm also getting the occasional light backfire. If I open the exhaust valve manually, it does seem to run a bit smoother and not backfire quite as much but still isn't what I would consider normal....

I've also noticed that the active muffler is not actuating at all... not at start up and and not as I open the throttle. Also, the test (With ignition on, and kill switch off, open throttle up wide open and back and then turn on kill switch) has no affect.

While I'm tempted to get the specops pipe and have EBR remap the ECM, something tells me that this oscillating idle is probably not caused by the exhaust and valve.... then again, my experience with working on bikes is limited but growing....I could always take it down to the stealership to reset the tps...but when I reset it with the stock ecm I seemed to do ok...

As always, tia for any pointers...

My XT started doing the same thing. Could there be a problem with the ECM program? I think I will try the Oem next time I have a chance and see if the idle improves.

The Buell Pro series muffler does not have the exhaust valve. So the programming may not be there for it?? I think i heard that the self test is not supported with the EBR ecm but works in normal operation. And if there is a problem with the actuator it will not flag a code??

I installed a EBR ecm recently. Was painless. You could try bring down the rpm a little to see if it helps? I lowered mine and things got better rpm wise for me.

I've always done TPS Reset with engine at operating temperature.
Then set idle speed between 1075 & 1150.

Works for me...

A couple of things. Did you use ECMSPY to reset the TPS. I was scolded by EBR for doing this. ECMSPY does not work for the race ECM. You can do things but it messes things up inside.

The other thing is the muffler valve is turned off in the ecm. I turned mine on using ECM SPY and it worked but I was never happy with the ECM and when I talked to EBR about it, that's when I got my scolding! They did offer to have me send my freshly reset TPS stock ecm to them along with the race ecm and they would set the tps properly so I could just throw it on and go. I'm just waiting for snow!

hmmm...

Ford, I think they told me to use the pro series as a starting point and they were going to put the programming on it. But maybe they just didnt...I guess if self test doesnt work thats understandable, but I should be able to see it actuate as I open the throttle running. Where did you bring the RPM down to?

Well, I did the reset at operating temperature, and then set like you mentioned Teeps.

I also did use ECMSPY for the ecm reset. the muffler valve option appears to be greyed out on ECM spy for me, so it doesnt look like I can set it there.

How does the bike run with the original ECM?

Profile indicates a '07 Uly; mileage?
Have you ever cleaned the throttle body, butterfly?

I used ECMSpy to reset the TPS and had no issues. Seemed to work fine. That or it was just dumb luck that the TPS calibration of the ECM was exactly where it needed to be.

What about using TunerPro? Is that application more EBR ECM friendly?

You should be using tunerpro. Someone said that EBR told them NOT to use ecmspy... I don't have any evidence of that though....

What I was told was that ECMSPY will make changes on the race ecm but it screws up other things. They said they could always tell when somebody has used ECMSPY since it messes up other parts of the programing. Like I mentioned, I was able to turn on the muffler valve with my ECMSPY and I was able to do all the test etc. But it never ran right. This is what the problem is.

At the end of the day you may just as well use TunerPro anyway. The whole thing is more logical to use to start with and is a "all in one" prog including the logging which is the main thing. Its also free which it is not for the later ECM versions from ECM-SPY. If you take the time and effort to learn TunerPro, it is not that hard and easier than ECM-SPY, you will be amazed at what it can do.

I looked at my tps voltage on my stock ecm. Then i installed my race ecm, closed plate closed, reset tps and adjusted plate until voltage was what i had on my stock ecm. Fired it up and she is running great. Idle is perfect.
