Is it possible to put 190/55R17 instead of 180/55R17 on the rear wheel? |

Short answer is yes. I've run 190 Q2's, Bridgestones and Pirelli red stripes with no issues. You do need to adjust suspension to keep geometry the same as what the 180 yields though, but that only takes a few minutes to do. |

Stirz007, what exactly did you do to the suspension when you went to the 190? I've been thinking about doing this too but have been fearful that it would require a lot more modifications than just adjusting the suspension. |

Really it depends on the manufacturer as too how drastic the change is to the profile of the tire. So research the tire dimensions before making your purchase. Your turn in will be a little slower due to the wider tire. |

Cap: The basic issue is that the 190 is 'taller', or slightly larger diameter than the 180, so it raises the rear end, thus decreasing rake and reducing trail - making the steering more 'twitchy'. To get back to stock geometry, you can either lower rear shock ride height (if yours is adjustable), or lower the forks in the trees (less tube extending above upper tree). In my case, I dropped fork tubes maybe 2-3 mm to get the suspension where I wanted it. I have not observed slower turn in Terry mentioned due to width, but I have seen that the overall tire profile will vary from tire to tire. For example, the Q2's have more of a vee profile and the Pirelli's are more of a smooth curve, so the drop-in to a turn will feel different. Perceptions and opinions vary, but for me, I like 'smoother' transition from upright to full lean on the Pirellis than I do on the Q2's (which is a 'quicker' transition (??)). Make any suspension changes in small increments, and no, I did not sleep at Holiday Inn last night. (Message edited by Stirz007 on October 03, 2012) |

Stirz007 ~ I like your very clear explanation of the variables. |
