Ok I have read through a bunch of stator/VR posts here on badweb and have not found a conclusive answer. I have a bad stator, battery won't charge and primary smells like that magic smoke that is always trying to escape from electrical components. My question: if I only change out the stator and the VR is bad too can it damage my brand new stator? Also anyway to test the VR independent of the system? |

A bad stator will kill a VR but a bad VR will not kill a stator. However, and there's always a however in life, a bad VR might blow out your headlights or damage your battery. Change your stator and then check the voltage at the battery. If it's ok then the VR is good. If not, then change the VR. |

Awesome that's exactly what I was looking for! I read through Skifastbadly's post and a few others and did not see that info. So once the new stator is installed as long as the VR is outputting the correct voltage to the battery I should be good. Anyone happen to know what that should be? Sorry it's late and I am too tired for searching. |
