Guy's what type of grease should I use on a 1998 Cyclone head bearings ? I found the procedure here http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/Manuals/S1_1 996-1997_Service/BU2b.pdf But the only talk about a wheel bearing packer, not the grade of grease? I only want to do this job one time,FFV. Thanks Paul B |

I would think that synthetic wheel bearing grease would work since they're tapered wheel bearings, but can't be sure. I don't think you would need something that withstands heat since there isn't as much friction as a wheel bearing. |

I prefer the marine grade grease they sell at F&F or Wallyworld or take your pick because it is high pressure and it is less prone to be affected by moisture (see water) or absorb moisture. This is a bit more expensive but the head bearings are easily penetrated by RAIN (or SNOW where I live). Hey this is my personal opinion. Good luck though. |

I stopped down the street and talked to a guy that use to run motocross a few years ago and he gave me some green grease. He said it was the sh!t, as I know he beat the hell out of his bikes and never had an issue with this stuff. I did find (to my surprise) that the factory? tin covers did not have a rubber seal to keep the water out , now the AllBalls kit had covers with rubber seals on the inner portion that rode the shaft. The bike is almost together (feels much better in the air) and I should have it finished latter this week. Thanks Paul B |

I agree what Bert said above. A marine grade or waterproof grease (I use Belray waterproof grease) because there is no seal to stop water incursion. This can happen when washing the bike if you're aggressive with the hose. |
