So I recently bought an 03 that sat for a long time. When I got it the fuel pump was dry rotted and injectors were clogged. I read about the mustang pump so I put one of them in and new injectors. Now. It ran well after cycling some good fuel through it (lots of slime and build up in tank, used standard cleaners and stabil) after one successful ride it will not run right of at all. It was bogging and not idling. I checked fuel pressure from pump and is was reading 7 psi. I figured it was a bad pump. So I pulled it out. Come to find out they gave me a pump for the wrong year mustang. This of put out only 55 psi as opposed to the 125 I believe it needs. So I ordered a new pump. My question is why do you think it ran well with the wrong pump once and now it won't? Am I missing something. Also I checked the injectors they are good. Not clogged. Help me is you can. Thank you! |

My service manual says the fuel pump 46-53psi. There are a number of things that can be wrong with a bike that sat for a long time, it could be battery related too, as the bike will not run right if the battery is low. |

I also replaced the battery and have it on a trickle charger so I do not think that is the issue either. |

You have kind of answered your own question. Bike ran fine, now it doesn't, and the pump output is down to 7 PSI. Either the new pump is failing (rare, but it can and does happen from time to time) or, more likely in your case, some more splooge has broken loose and is clogging something. Re-awakening bikes can be a chore sometimes ...... |

Does anyone know if there is any sort of modification that needs to be done to the mustang fuel pump so it fits the regulator properly or should it just fit? |

I think your making a big mistake.. manual says the fuel pump 46-53psi. 55 psi sounds about right. Some use this one. http://www.fuel-pumps.net/521.html You will damage the FI system with too much pressure. It's important to change the fuel filter a few times after an episode like yours, when the filter clogs up,fuel can't flow and the motor starves. I would run some fuel injector cleaner through the system. Do not use Ethanol fuel. Keep the air filter clean. It's bound to have a few cobwebs. |
