I have come to the conclusion that selling my 08 XT was a big mistake. thats BIG mistake. My begging the new owner to sell it back isn't working. There is a very nice low mile 07 XT available locally. Comfort kit, bags, Palmer windshield bracket, TT Pegs, bar risers, guard extensions .... nice stuff. I am wondering if the changes made in 08 are worth passing this up. (did I mention it's $4700?) It is a second bike but I plan on putting some substantial miles on it. My friend has an 06 that hasn't had a problems. Opinions? |

Richard- there's no such thing as an 07 XT; 08 was the first year for the XT model. Having been through the traumatic experience of having an 07 engine self-destruct, I wouldn't buy another one (although by all indications the crankshaft problem is relatively rare). There's nothing wrong with an 06, but I'd go for an 08-up if I could find one. The engine upgrades are well worth the additional cost. |

You do NOT want a 06-07, and for not much more you can get a nice 08+ like Someday's. Going to a 06/07 after having a 08+ is like going back to the stone age. |

I would avoid any `06-`07. I`m in the process of putting an `08 crank in my `06 w/ 17k miles. Not worth the gamble to me, and the `08 has the better triple trees, plus better engine. |

We have had an 06, an 07 and now the 08. Same basis sound ride, however the 08 has 3 model years of progression and improvement. We would suggest the 08 if cash is generally the same. YRMV Cheers |

I also like the 08+ tighter turning trees. If nothing else it makes a big difference shuffling bikes in the garage. |

I have an '06 with 42k miles. Never have any problems. It's a tank. I think the guys that have had problems with '06s cry the loudest. Everyone else just keeps on clocking miles. |

I have an 06 and 2 07's. 62k combined miles. Only pushing has been 1 wheel bearing and1 belt. Would like the turn radius, though. No complaints. Plus, they're s steal if you shop right. My .02 |

The XT's don't have the tighter turning radius I don't think, just the X's. I don't plan to ever sell my 10 though. Ever. |

My '07 was definitely a steal, bought it March 2011 with 32K miles with all the luggage and quite a few farkles. The price was well below $4000 with tax, title, license and a new battery. I think I would be hard pressed to find a 2007 BMW GS or any other adventure tourer of that year for that price. As of now I have about 47K miles. Admittedly, I have had a few problems with it (most of them in the beginning): Rocker cover gaskets, fan, ECM, throttle shaft and rear wheel bearings to name a few. Also its a little scary when I hear of the problem with some bikes having bad crank bearings. But, believe it or not, I would buy it again, I love the bike and plan on hanging on to it when I purchase another. I'm thinking that doing all the wrenching myself made me appreciate the engineering and how easy it is to work on the bike. I don't know. If I would have had to pay someone to do the repair work I would probably have a different opinion. Anyway, I'm thinking right now my '07 Uly always has a place in my stable, and I would happily fix it if the crank bearing went. |

Have an '06 since Oct of '05 with 56,000 miles, click on my profile for a running history log. I also have the '99 M2 with 47,000 miles so combined over 100k miles with the older engine parts. I am taking two road trips in the next three weeks (FINALLY!) and not concerned about reliability. The only thing my bike has needed is a better rider. As for the '08+ bikes, the XT with the lower seat height would be nice, the tighter turning radius with the standard X would be nice and the engine mods give you a few more revs which is also nice though I rarely hit the rev limiter anymore. The sum of the parts has never been enough for me to trade in my '06 for a newer model. Also the mapping of the '06-'07 bikes were better for fuel economy than '08+. I haven't looked at the web page with mpgs in a while but last time I looked the earlier bikes were averaging considerably better mileage and was quite a clamor when the '08 model first came out. |

"You do NOT want a 06-07, and for not much more you can get a nice 08+ like Someday's. Going to a 06/07 after having a 08+ is like going back to the stone age." In some ways yes, in others no Froggy on a 2010 bike anyway? My 06 bike, after some fixes, worked great. Ok so it did run very hot and the fan run a lot but it was an animal. My 2010 bike is not run in yet but it is getting better. The 06 engine felt like "I am going to rip your face off" while the 2010 engine is more "civil". Of that I willllll change. |

I concur with Uly_Man. I had an 06 that was honestly, a lemon. The engine, however, was beastly. A much more visceral, torquey experience than my 09. The later models are more refined and likely more reliable, but to me, somewhat less exciting. If I had the cash and garage space I would have an 06 as my fun bike and keep the 09 as my commuter/tourer. Just my opinion. |

OK......good advice. I have found a 2010 X with 3500 miles not far away from me for a great price. (sorry Someday) It does have the Palmer cruise pegs. I think I have had cruise (or Highway) pegs on every bike I have ever owned except my GS and I have never used them. I will be listing the Palmer kit for sale after I pick the bike up. I will also be looking for a Tall clear (XB12XT) windshield. |

Mine is very slightly more Frankenstein than T9r's: 07 Uly 09 engine 09 ECM 09 wiring harness 09 oil cooler 10 rear wheel EBR airbox decals I would add some tuber parts, but the thing is already unreliable and slow enough as it is. You should add tuber, XBRR AND 1190RS parts for true completeness. (Message edited by Hughlysses on August 09, 2012) (Message edited by Hughlysses on August 09, 2012) |

I know: XBRR fairing for ultimate aerodynamics, some 1190RS carbon fiber bits (front fender at least?) for appearance, and cobble an S3T gas tank on top of the airbox for an additional ~5 gallons of fuel capacity! The ultimate Buell! |
