I have a problem with my '06 Uly not holding the trip meters and clock settings. I suspect a drain somewhere but the bike as yet to not start even after several weeks of sitting. Any clues? I'm leaving in a couple weeks for a western loop of around 5,000 miles and I would like to use the trip meters. Thanks |

Check your battery ground connection, and the ground connection between the frame and motor. Also look for shorts in the wire bundle that comes out behind the flyscreen and goes under the frame. Also under the seat. Probably worth some checking before a long trip, it might be a sign of other problems to come (as more wires chafe). |

Does it reset when you start the bike, or randomly at other times? If the former, put a voltmeter on the battery when you start it, and you'll likely see a huge sag. Do all that Bill said and if it still does it, jump a different battery into it and do the test again. Batteries often fail with an internal load short. That is, it's fine for normal use, but under big load like starting, an internal short develops and voltage sags. Such batteries usually charge fine, and measure fine, until you load them big. Seems every battery failure I've had in recent years has been that type, not the slow death that old lead acid wet cells used to give me. Al |

Thanks for your responses! I checked all the connections, battery ground, frame ground and all seems good. I had the charger on it last night and it seems to be holding it's clock settings so far. It sure fired up with more confidence after the charger so I'm thinking it's the battery even though it is only a little over a year old. Anyone try an ion battery? Would like to hear something before dropping that kind of coin. |
