Actually, "proper technique" is proper technique, regardless of physique.

The difference is how you arrive at the proper technique.

No matter how you're built - like me, 6'4" and lanky as hell; like Froggy, who's lighter than my Arai; or a friend of mine who is about as heavy as my Ulysses - you don't want body weight on your hands. Weight rides on your butt and feet. Your torso and hands are unweighted, for control and movement and agility.

How you get there is where the difference lies.

+ 1 Good technique. Relax.

The right gloves help immensely. In the rain its even more important. Ride, make sure your gear works and ride some more.

Sort out the details before you take that epic trip to Argentina : ).

Numbness in the hands is a very dangerous, forget uncomfortable, situation. Mix in some coldness and all feeling's gone.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is position dependent.

General numbness = Vibrational excess.

Gel padded gloves + nice thick foam grip took care of my fingers

I installed a bar snake. It eliminated the problem.

Mine never put my hands to sleep but we all tolerate vibes different.I did however stumble across a product called the Vibranator a tuned mass damper that inserts in the bar ends. I have Barkbusters on my machine so I got the ones that work with that type of hand guard you would find on an enduro bike. They been in there a couple years and I noticed a big drop in handlebar a mirror buzz right away but have got used to em now.still a little fuzzy mirror images but way better then before I put em in. http://www.vibranator.com/dirt_bikes_s/22.htm
