Dumb Question of the Month #2...

Is Buell considering an updated replacement belt for the Tubers? Never lost one but only have 10.0K on the bike and like to upgrade whenever possible.

Incidentally, I'll plead ignorance if the upgrade has already taken place and I missed it.

Tuber belts routinely go well over 50,000 miles. No upgrade of which I am aware.

I have the new updated tuber belt on my S2 - You have to specifically ask for the one that says "Sportster" on it. The Mother Company never released a Buell version, since they are no longer actively supporting the tube frame bikes. I took some fine grit sandpaper and managed to get most of the "Sportster" label off the belt last time I washed the bike, it's a little frayed where I did it, but it looks a whole lot better.
sitting back and waiting for someone to take this seriously

Carefull there Philly, the primered Chevy Ford van may show up at your doorstep and respray the Sportster back onto the belt. Against the copywrite agreement you agreed to when you bought the belt: "Thou shall not obliterate nor remove any nomenclature from any product".

Is that quite as big a sin as ripping the tags off of a mattress?

I've seen that car before - it's for the transport of the underwater drug-interdiction team of coke sniffing carp.
Outrider - all of it.
btw is it ironic to get arrested in "Freetown"? Or only in the Alanis Morrisette kind of ironic?
: D

Dang Philly...You had my hopes up for a while there. LOL

Mattress Police...An AMC Pacer...Oh no, not that again!

As for coke sniffing carp, that reminds me of the comedian that said "Cocaine? I hate cocaine, but I sure do love the smell."

I'm talking to a rep that sells belts for 800bhp diesel portable crushing jaws etc and I don't want to estimate the torque involved in producing that sort of power from a +20L engine. Makes anything the XBs produce fairly insignificant. He has looked at the belt, the minimum pulley sizes and specs, measured the tensioner diameter, engine power, rpm and torque curve and assures me that if Goodyear had something stronger they would be supplying it to the mining industry as well, not just toys as he refers to bikes. He still insists that the belt on my bike is a version made for Buell of the BlackHawk PD.

A sales rep? You are accepting technical opinions on engineering issues from a sales rep? Please.

160 horsepower kawasaki zx10, 188 mile per hour hayabusa, $40,000 MV agusta, 96 hour prudhoe bay to key west florida ducati multistrada, and multiple klr650 global circumnavigations all have what for a drivetrain? two sprockets and an oring chain. any body you know of trying to convert any of these fine motorcycles over to belt drive? i dont think so. i only have 210 miles on my chaindrive XB yet, but i suspect i will wear out the aluminum rear sprocket before the tsubaki sigma 530 chain gets stretchy.

Ahhh...How's the development of the "Roadside Repair Kit" for Belts coming along?

Wonder if that sales rep is actually a sales engineer or just an applications chart reader?

I ride a 2004 XB12S.

On the weekend, I found fibre hanging out the side of my belt... No damage to the rubber what so ever... just the fibres are out and about for an excursion (field trip)...

So, it's obvious to me and the Buell Tech that it's not an interference issue, but actually the belt has started to de-laminate and let the fibres out.

The shop guys called Brisbane and were told to send away digital photo's, so I fronted back to the dealer and had them take some happy snaps...

They reckon they will let me know if they can replace it under warrantee.

I would have thought that if an authorised dealer's Buell Tech says it's delamination, that it's a belt failure, not abuse or misshandling that it would have been covered, gratus.

Anyhow, it's only got 6,200k's on it. If they tell me it's a normal falure, then I'll be fitting a chain. 6,200k's is not enough life out of a $430AUD belt. 5h1t, I'd be expecting at least twice as many k's out of a $160AUD chain.

If they tell me it's not normal, I'll be expecting a new, free belt, at wich point I'll give the new belt the benifit of the doubt, but I refuse to be bitten twice...
