Hi guys I had a bad primary seal fail on a long trip . I was not leaking oil at start of trip but it started as a good drip I noticed it on one of the stops for gas so I checked the oil level and it was ok . I filled the bike up and ran it until the gas tank light came on will say a good 200 miles pulled over and the back tire was covered in oil I opened up the primary and it was compleatly dry and there is what l am guessing is clutch partical shavings of kevlair all over the cover the trans made no noise at all and every thing seamed to shift ok I have no idea how long it was dry but it looks like mud in the primary . How much damage do you think was done ? What should I check while I have primary cover off I'm guessing at the least a new clutch. Do I need to worry about the primary gears or any thing it smells burnt bad with inspection cover open. I will be taking main primary cover off this weekend to check it out. Thanks for any sugestions and help. |

Take off the primary cover, clean it out really well, and see if anything is crunchy. Fix the leak (crank seal?), put it back together, add the right amount of oil, and see if the clutch slips. You could proactively replace the clutch if you don't want to be surprised when it goes out. It may be fine... |

I got the primarry cover off every thing looked ok the chunks were from the the chain adjusted it shredded in to what looked like fiberglass. So looks like new adjuster and seals may be all I need . Or I hope it will be . I may get a clutch for it to but I don't have tool to put it on so I would have to have it done. |
