Short of buying a new Corbin, is there anything that can be done to the stock seat to make it more comfortable on long rides? | ||

I have a euro seat on my S1 that is taller and it helps a bit. My CR has a saddlemen and has really dense foam, much better. find a shop that has the very dense orthopaedic grade foam. | ||

I am not sure if anyone on the forum does seat customization so I hope I am not stepping on any toes but I sent my seat for my Honda VTX to Mean City Cycles. They do great work and were significantly cheaper than buying a mustang or ultimate seat. They were also able to move me back an inch and down an inch and a half. They have different types of seat modifications. I had the double decker done. They remove the stock foam and replace it with a layer of 10lb memory foam and then a layer of 5lb memory foam. There's a guy on the forum that did several seats on here and they looked top notch. I think his handle was gowindward IIRC. I've not seen his name on the threads I peruse but that doesn't mean he's not still here. I've also heard good things about mean city on the Vulcan forum as well. | ||

I'm not sure if I'd better off going with a completely new seat like a Corbin, having Baldwin make one, or sending my current seat to a place like mean city to customize it. I see that places like Mean City will customize seat to what I want. But I don't really know what I want. I do know that I am constantly pushing myself back in the saddle. I'm tired of the "nut crunching" effect and sore inner thighs from sliding into and riding on the rear portion of the tank. | ||

I would suggest calling a company like Mean City Cycles and talking to them about your bike and your like and dislikes of your current seating position. Seats are what they do for a living and as far as I'm concerned very good at it. I am not sure how many Buell seats they do but they do a ton of metric cruisers and harleys. | ||

I'm dealing with the same issue. I just did 600 miles in about a week on my X1 and my ass is not happy! But I think I'm going the Corbin route. | ||

You would have to find a Corbin used. The last time I talked to them they were no longer making them for th X1. I guess there mold got damaged. They told me the could make one if they had an X1. I told them at the time I would ship them my factory seat. They told me they needed the whole bike. I was not sending the whole bike from PA to CA. Maybe they make them now. When I tried to get one their web site showed they still sold them and took my money. They then called a couple of days later with the bad news. I ended up going with a Buell Select seat. It is much better than factory. | ||

How long ago was this? The site still shows them. Actually, they updated the X1 section over the last couple of months. I guess i'll have to call them later. | ||

Try Loren Mock of Baldwin Motorbike saddles.He is one of us and can do any variety of modifications to make your seat not only more comfortable but very unique | ||

I have a Corbin Gunfighter on my M2 that I picked up used. It is pretty good for longer rides however I find it a bit long for my 5'10" frame. Some people describe the Corbin as too hard however once broken in, I have found it about right. I prefer the shape of the Buell Pegasus seat however and may eventually get Baldwin to re-do the Pegasus with better foam and a bit more of a "butt pocket" so that I have both the form and function that I prefer. If starting out, I would go strait to Baldwin. | ||

When I emailed Corbin a month or so ago, they said they could make them and it would take about 2 weeks. Maybe that is just the standard response when asked how long it would take. Mean City said they cannot modify the X1 seat. Baldwin said they can do it, but are back logged to mid September. I'm leaning towards going this route. I'm not really sure where you would even find a Pegasus seat at this point. Does anyone have a part number I could search for? | ||

I just got off the phone with Corbin, and 2002 is correct. They need to borrow an X1 in order to resume production of that seat. SO...........if any of our fellow Buellers in N. California would let Corbin borrow your X1, you would get a free seat out of the deal, and you would be helping out guys like me that really want a Corbin saddle. you guys are over thinking this  the best thing i've ever found is a sweet thick sexy piece of sheep skin! throw that over any seat for hundreds of miles in comfort. you need a nice thick piece though, not a thin wash glove or anything. i've used my piece on three bikes now. only drawback is you look like gramps going down the road | ||

i was just going to comment on the image aspect of it, my bike would look like crap with one of those on there. My friend has a big yamaha cruiser with bull horns on it and guns and the sheeps skin works on that. no joke he has a rifle and a handgun and the bike with a set of huge bull horns on the front. | ||

I hated my stock X1 saddle, i.e. the "n*t cr*sh*r", luckily a long posted ad in the wanted section of the classifieds landed me a Buell Select for my X1. I couldn't be happier with it. Search and wait, or look to Baldwin, that was my next move. | ||

For all those interested i just got off the phone with Corbin. The Gunfighter and the gunfighter & Lady seats are still being made and can be ordered. Nothing happened to the molds. The gentleman that I spoke with was real nice and said ordering one should be no problem. If you want to order one here is his name direct extension Mike 1-800-223-4332 ext. 323. He works in the shop in Florida. I have a gunfighter and lady on my bike. I haven't put that many miles on it but it is more comfortable than stock. | ||

A cheap fix that i did was to just re wrap it. I went to Joann's fabrics and found a thick black vinyl material that was more stretchy, flexible, softer than the stock seat. i then pulled all the tacks out of the stock seat, carefully pulled off the cover so not to ruin the foam, and then re wrapped it in the new stuff. finished it with a staple gun around the edges. it look exactly factory but trust me i can ride for hours now without any issues. its like a new seat. |
