just did my oil changed, just hit 30k on my 08! unfortunately these two pieces drained out the left side/cam shaft side. so if i was a betting kinda guy, id say this is a camshaft chain guide tensioner thing. the last two places i rode this bike were at miller in october then chuckwalla raceway in november. bike seems to be running fine currently, but maybe i should get this fixed?? who knows how long its been broken and such, its been sitting all winter long, |

Your guess would probably be correct, that's what it looks like to me. |

I'm not familiar with the guts of an 1125, but it looks like a cam chain guide to me... If it were me, I would not run that motor until you addressed it. I'm assuming that without the guide the cam chain timing could get pretty far off, or worse yet you could jump a tooth, and I can't imagine an 1125 isn't a zero clearance motor (meaning the valves would hit the piston). |

I am familiar with the guts and yes that is chunks of can chain guide. Time for surgery... |

Maybe it's just old material. Have the chain guides been done? Maybe it's leftovers from that. If not, I think that was a recall so you should be able to get it fixed. |

They are little pieces so it's reasonable to believe they are still functioning however count your blessings those pieces didn't go up and get jammed between the gears. |

I have an 08 made in March of 08. The dealer checked for recalls on the bike. Was it for early 08s? What is the story behind it. |

I don't think there was a recall on the cam chain tensioner guides for 08s. They did update the tensioner guides though. I've had the new ones sitting on my bench for about a year. lol. |

The gears would most likely chew those pieces of plastic up and spit them out without a thought. That maybe why they are now small pieces. |

Talk to your dealer, looks like it is a recall issue. Build Years/Makes/Models: 2008 BUELL 1125R 2009 BUELL 1125CR UNits affected: 140 Recall Number: 08V554000 Summary: BUELL IS RECALLING 140 MY 2009 1125CR MOTORCYCLES. THESE MOTORCYCLES CAN EXPERIENCE A PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE REAR CYLINDER CAM CHAIN TENSION GUIDE (PART NUMBER F0020.1AM). THIS CAN CAUSE PLASTIC DEBRIS TO BLOCK THE OIL PUMP SCREEN, POSSIBLY LEADING TO OIL STARVATION AND ENGINE SEIZURE. Consequence: THIS CONDITION MAY ALLOW THE ENGINE TO SEIZE, RESULTING IN REAR WHEEL LOCK-UP. THIS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH, WHICH COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH TO THE RIDER. Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR CAM CHAIN TENSIONER. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 20, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BUELL AT 1-414-342-4680. I noticed on my spare motors that the chain on the rear cylinder goes very loose while sat...I then discovered they use hydraulic tensioners,so just the spring taking up tension when not running. Must be something different in the layout of the rear cylinder, front appears ok.If you tried turning the motor over-by hand- the rear cams would move in steps as the chain tightened then went slack. I will be making manual tensioners. |

sorry; sorted the images on my photobucket, here are the revised images sent the above pics to EBR, and they replied that the pieces are definitely part of the lower cam chain guide. double checked with my dealership; my bike does not have that recall available. i ordered all of the chain tensioners and guides from the parts department. when they come in, it looks like ill be tearing it back apart one more time! |

PB - did you notice any power loss? I put Loretta on our dyno last week and she's down to only 114-115 HP. She seems noisier than usual as I can hear the top-end over my Drummer. Dyno run looked like a buzz-saw even with level 5 smoothing, previous 3 dyno visits all had nice smooth lines. First thing I intend to check is the strainer as I think my tensioners may be breaking down too. Oil looked fine last change, but I didn't check the strainer... Z |

zac, i would say that yes, my bike has felt a little... off. power seems a bit more inconsistent than i remember, but it could just be me. the engine seems a bit louder than usual, but again who knows if im just losing my mind!!! again im in the same boat, i should have pulled the strainer and at least cleaned it out. i hope that the parts dont take too terribly long to get here. id rather just do it all ASAP and get it over with. i have fuel to save and tracks to abuse this summer!! |

Update! Pulled the bike back apart, bought a crankshaft locking tool, pulled the alternator cover, rotor and gears off to find the rear chain guide and lower guide completely destroyed. The cam chain ground into the case, it was worn through so badly. I am assuming that I can replace with new guides put everything back together and call it a job well done? Old guide left, new guide on right. Debris caught in oil strainer.

Do you think your oil filter got the chain to case wear? |

Nice PB, doesn't look too bad. I see 140 HP right around the corner! Got a new/old windshield for my Uly today!!! no more bugs in my mouth!!!! Collateral damage looks small, betting I'm right behind you. Did a hot check 2 days ago and oil level is spot-on. She's still 20 HP up on my Uly so I don't really miss the power. Hope I don't kill myself when I get it back. I think with all that junk floating around tho, I'd run the motor with a kerosene flush(instead of oil) for a couple of 10-15 minute sessions to get all the junk out. Then cheap 30W dino oil for 30 miles and a fill of good synthetic to finish. Z |

Are owners notified by mail or do we need to call the dealer to run the vin? |

i think i may be experiencing a similar problem... i noticed my bike got a little loud on a ride this weekend, my hyperchondriacism had me thinking i smoked the motor, but when i tried pinpointing what i thought the problem 'sounded' like, i was inclined to steer towards cam chain tensioner (had an old atc 350x back in the day that had a tensioner fail, similar noise) Mine almost sounds like really poor valve adjustment under load, but goes away almost completely on decel... and at steady rpm under no load gets considerably quieter... i did a search of this forum for cam chain tensioner and stumbled upon this thread... thanks in advance, i think me and my wallet will sleep better tonight! fingers crossed its just my guide and wont be a real expensive trip to the dealer... |

Hildreth. The expense depends on warranty if any remains and failing that whether or not you can perform the repair. If you can no not horribly expensive if you can't, ouchy. |
