I have the opportunity to buy a factory S1 race frame and swing arm, but I am not familiar with the differences between a factory race frame and a standard production frame. Can somebody please enlighten me? TIA |

Factory race frames (in theory) were the same as production components but would either have no VIN or would have an "R" stamped on the front of the VIN and an "O" at the end of the VIN - to designate them as "Race Only". The intent would be that Race Only components that typically had a VIN/EIN (frames/engines)would not be used on a titled/licensed motorcycle intended for street use. The process for Race Only components was less structured in the first several years but developed in to a more refined process ("R" and "O" stamping, more documentation) in the later years. An early "Factory Race" frame may have been originally sold with an MSO and may be legal to title - or it may have been designated as "Race Only" and may be difficult to title in some states. |
