2000 x1 lightning, appears to be a small leak under the primary case by the chain tensioner bolt and screw? Am thinking I might need to replace the Primary Cover gasket, also appears to be leaking around where the plastic "wing" on he bottom is held on by the screw going into the primary. Would replacing the gasket possible fix these leaks? Looking for smaller fixes before I tear into it, I have never taken the primary off before. Thanks Dan |

The primary gasket is going south, the gasket has a split or tear on the inside where it surrounds one of the two 5/16" bolts at the bottom, this is common with the old style paper gaskets,a new rubberize metal gasket should fix the problem. Also change out the primary chain tensioner to the improved one if its not already been done. (Message edited by Jramsey on July 03, 2012) |

The metal plate that the plastic guide shoe fits on is about .145 thick on the early style and .210 on the improved one, easy to see when comparing. The early ones the plate is known to crack around hole where the adjustment stud goes through it. |

Did a little searching through BadWeb and found some good info on what the good one looks like, I have the maintenance manual so that will give some direction, I saw a lot of info on the X1-Files, I clicked on multiple links but they never opened, is that site still up and running or am I out of luck on that? |
