This... from Roadracing World:

Erik Buell Racing (EBR) is working toward racing the EBR 1190 in the FIM Superbike World Championship with an American rider as early as 2013. But because of different
technical rules and homologation procedures between the two series, EBR will have to develop a new version of the 1190 for its international adventure.

To gain AMA homologation of the 1190RS, EBR
had to build 18 examples prior to the first homologation inspection, 36 by June 1 of the first season of competition, 72
before the end of the season and 100 by the end of the calendar year. To meet FIM
homologation as a manufacturer that has never taken part in the Superbike World
Championship, EBR must build 125 bikes before the first homologation inspection,
500 by the end of June of the first season and 1000 by the end of the calendar year.
The bike that EBR homologated for use in AMA Pro Superbike, the 1190RS, comes with race-spec Öhlins suspension, a digital AiM Sports dashboard, magnesium wheels and
a price tag of $39,999, just under AMA Pro Racing’s limit of $40,000. To be able to build and sell 1000 motorcycles, however, EBR will develop a lower-cost version dubbed the 1190RX. “It’s (1190RX) pretty much the same bike,” said Erik Buell, “except for plastic bodywork, and you’re not going to have magnesium wheels or a $2000 dashboard. You’ll have aluminum
wheels and a regular dashboard. But it will have the same engine, the same frame, the same swingarm, the same subframe. We
want to be (price) competitive with the Ducati, the BMW and the KTM, just under $20,000, that kind of price point.”

Unlike AMA Pro Racing, which greatly restricts tuning of Superbikes, the World Superbike rules will allow EBR to install the Öhlins suspension and magnesium wheels from the 1190RS and many other nonstandard
parts on the 1190RX. The EBR, however, will race under the same technical restrictions as other 1200cc V-Twins, like the Ducati 1098R.

“It’s not going to be a winning bike in World Superbike,” said Buell. “It’s not a winning bike yet in AMA. It’s competitive, and it puts on a good show, and it’s very respectable. That’s what I’m trying to do, get an American rider and an American motorcycle into World Superbike. It’s not
going to happen this year but maybe
in 2013.”

Interesting... you really think they will have models available by next year in the $20K range?

I hope so... I would also like to see ABS and Traction COntrol... not only because I think these are good features but because the competition has these features...

Any of you all seen much about the Honda NC700X? It is their new adventure bike... looks decent, and can't beat the price. Bart probably wont like it since it is chain driven, but a 700cc adventure bike might be a nice addition, especially at $7K

I read that it's really down on power and it's configured really weird. The fuel is under the seat and the "tank" is actually a storage trunk that will hold a full size helmet. And it's not really set up to "adventure" it's just styled that way.

Yea, I'm not a fan of chains any more. ; )
I also read that it is basically a street bike that looks like an adventure bike.
It's not really dirt worthy...

ok, well, that answers that question. I saw an article on it in Cycle World, and thought it looked decent for the price, but I hadnt done too much in the way of research on it.

Speaking of Cycle world, did any of you see the latest edition with the superbike shootout that included the "exotics" (i.e. EBR 1190RS, Ducati Panigale, etc.)?

The article said all praised EBR's rim-mounted single sided front rotor/braking system and dubbed it the "race bike with a license plate" Pretty good article.

Any of you do any good riding lately? I am going to try to get my coolant changed out in the Buell to a race coolant this weekend. Maybe it will help keep my bike a bit cooler in the stop and go heat of the summer. I have the forks off of the CBR at the moment replacing the seals on them, but it too should be back together this weekend. Still cant do much riding though as my weekends are spent entertaining the step-son.

Sparky, Thanks for the suggestion I May try that if the coolant change doesnt work. I just picked up a couple bottles of LIQUID race coolant/ anti-freeze per the suggestion of BuellNick as that is what he uses in his 1125R.

Glad that guy is behind bars now... Still not leaving my bike out though : )

Adam, I had an epic ride out in Arkansas two weeks ago at the 4th annual S2 gathering. It was a great 3 days! Last Sunday I did a 400 mile loop on the CR up the high road to Mora, then Angel Fire, and Taos for lunch then came back down the high road and 14. It was a great day for riding!
I will be watching for your results on your coolant change, was thinking about that myself as I was getting cooked by the CR last weekend.
Heading up to Colorado today for some fun in the Rockies...

Agfish,

Re: COOLANT... I have been running race coolant (LP Liquid Performance - sold at Moto Authority) and my coolant temps on the 1125R reached about 212F (tops) in stop/go traffic during 98+F temps.

Out on the open road, my coolant temps have been in the upper 180 - lower 190 range in 94+F ambient temp.

WaterWetter is an easier alternative... you should try that first before changing out all the fluid... which is a pain to do since replacement requires a complete flush/exchange from both radiators...

Whether you go with water wetter, Purple Ice, or LP... A change in your coolant should help...

Man, missing NM...

Two bikes down has been the general case since I moved.

Right now, the 1125 rear wheel bearing is flinging rust from getting wet (I can't imagine how... not like we've had 3 months of rain or anything), and the Blast rear wheel bearing is loose enough that it's getting replaced/JBWelded into the wheel. This after the 1125 was down for a while with the ignition harness (again), and the XB9 & Blast needed rubber.

Plus, the traffic... : ( It's awful.

NM had it's faults, but "being an awesome state to own motorcycles in" was definitely a plus!

Bart, We did that same ride (Mora, Angelfire, taos) a couple of weeks ago. We stopped up at the Vietnam Vet's memorial. A great ride! How were the roads in Arkansas?

As for the coolant, I already bought the LP coolant... Haven't put it in yet, But I may as well do it now that I already have it.

I did a short jaunt around town on Saturday just to get out of the house. Took Unser out to 550, then 550 through Bernalillo to 313 to tramway and up to the rock house off of tramway. Temps on bike didnt get above 195. When I was going back home through town it only got up to about 205 total... The bike temp isnt horrible all the time, I just notice that if I get stuck in traffic and am idling or moving VERY SLOWLY for 10 minutes or longer on a hot day, the temps creep up toward 220+. Recently the only times that this has happened is when there was an accident on I40 during rush hour and I was stuck on the freeway for about 15 minutes before I could get off. It is mostly during rush hour/ slow bumper to bumper traffic that the heat gets up for me. Once I start moving, it is fine.

Russ, Sorry to hear about the crappy motorcycle situation. Are you at least liking your job?

Adam, I saw you on 550 crossing the river. I was in my truck headed up to the house.

It's discussions like this that make me glad I don't have a temperature gauge on the XBs. I can recall certain times when I was really concerned about the heat and I just don't know what you can do for an air cooled bike that overheats. At some point, I guess it'll just blow up. Or die. Yuma at noon in June at a border patrol checkpoint comes to mind.

Meanwhile, Sorry to hear of the woes of the Pacific North Wet. I will be coming through there sometime soon on my journey. Hope to get started by the weekend. New aluminum boxes should be here by tomorrow. Gotta start packing my junk.

I lived in Yuma for 10 wonderful years... I cannot imagine waiting at that border patrol checkpoint on an air cooled bike, ESPECIALLY in June.

Well, if you're up here, ping me. I'd love to go riding, if I've got something running, which is questionable at this point - waiting on parts. Always waiting on parts. And nobody up here stocks ANYTHING for Buell. There's even a Harley dealership with no parts department.

The job is fine, though not 100% what I thought it would be. Cost of living, on the other hand, is just stupid. Hoping to get back into the infosec realm at some point here.

On air cooled bikes, I don't think there's much you can do, but I don't think there's much you have to do. As long as the oil remains at a reasonable temperature, the bike should be fine. It'll just radiate a lot of heat off the engine. The parts should be loose enough to not have any real issues, and I don't think the cylinder head temps will get high enough at idle to cause any actual issues. Plus, the Buells have a fan. : )

The good news is that you can just shut down if you're sitting for that long.

Really, though, as long as the oil temperatures don't climb out of control, I wouldn't worry about the engine too much if you're running a good synthetic.
