wow...its been forever since I've posted here....way too busy I suppose. Anyways, I seem to have a perpetual leak at the clutch cable (where it goes into the engine). Every time its been into the dealership, they tell me they tightened it and everytime, its the first thing to start leaking again. Anyone else have this issue? Any permanent (or semi) fixes for it? Thanks, CM |

Hallo... Unless the fluid is puddling up underneath your bike (then you have a problem), you can consider what you describe as "perfectly normal behaviour" at this location...It is only ever a "microscopic" amount of fluid seeping out of the primary cover at the clutch cable sleeve cap connection...You could put a brand new clutch cable on once a week and it would still do this after a short time on the bike...Relax about this and clean/dry the cable off once in a while - you are essentially powerless to stop it from happening... |

What Eric said. Exactly my experience at 35,000 miles. DO NOT over tighten it! |

Then how come none of my air cooled Buells have ever leaked? Sounds like the O-ring at the end of the clutch cable is damaged |

My Steelership replaced the cable under warranty saying that the termination crimp on the end of the outer cable was "weeping". They implied that it was a common occurrence. Cured it 100% |

some possibilities: -the crimp on the cable isn't quite right, you'll need to replace it -o ring on the end of the cable isn't sealing. you'll need to drain the primary to fix that. -the cable was over-torqued and either the end of the cable snapped (OK), or the threads on the primary case are screwed up (not OK). helicoils work well if the damage isn't too bad. |

As said if it is just a "smear" wipe it away every now and then and do not worry on it. I did hear some place that the later versions of the cable were less prone to this but who knows for sure? |

thanks for all the responses....starts out with a smear and ends up as a drip eventually. Nothing major, but it does sound like maybe I could use a new cable. |

The clutch cable crimp has weeped on my Uly for the better part of 27k miles. A blast of brake cleaner and it's all good... |

Mine has been leaking so last night when I had the primary cover off changing the stator I unscrewed the clutch cable and inspected the o-ring. It was fine, so I applied some of the permatex thread sealant and put it back together. Now that I think about it, you might be right ... its that metal crimp on the cable. |

Same here, I even bought an o-ring and was planning on changing it at 15K when I was told about the cable crimp. Sure enough, I cleaned it off with brake clean and rode it for a while, the cable started getting damp before the metal crimp, not at the primary. It is real slow, a little brake clean and it stays dry for quite a while. If you do change the cable, heed everyone's warning and do not over tighten the cable end. It will strip. The o-ring makes the seal and it's not a crush type seal so it doesn't have to be real tight. Read the note on American Sport Bike. |

I had a fairly new cable start leaking at the crimp. Smear some silicone sealer on the area and then cover with heat-shrink tubing. Since it is not a pressure leak, this will take care of the problem. Just have to find a bit of that large dia. tubing to slide over the trans fitting end of the cable. |

I was thinking of using some of this: http://www.amazon.com/RESCUE-Self-Fusing-Silicone- Tape-BLACK/dp/B000ZTK6CI |
