That's been my experience with anodizing also. I had some security gates powder coated last year at ABQ Manufacturing off Paseo. They did a good job, turnaround was about a week, I have no idea yet how much they'd charge to do small parts, I'll prob have my tail done also since I only painted it when I chopped it. I was thinking I'd do some type of red on both pieces to compliment the plastics and wheels, or maybe just factory magnesium to match the headlight bucket. Anyplace else I should call for pricing? |

I had my stuff painted at Synergy coatings, 344-9580. The expensive part was the paint, because I wanted a custom color. It's less expensive if you use one of his standard colors. |

Jody, I need to start putting the S2 together this week, and I'm bringing the Tenere in for it's 8000 mile service. I'm also going to install the EBR rotor in the CR this weekend. I'll be ready to come up the weekend after the 4th.

Ooo! I just looked them up, they do ceramic coating too! www.coat-this.com I may see what they'd charge to do my header. Thanks Bart. |

OK... so here is some ride report from the weekend ride that Bart, Jody, & I did in Colorado. First, Bart & I left Albuquerque around 10am on Friday June 8th and went up the Turquoise Trail and took the High Road to Taos. I continue to experiment with taking photos on the move with my Kodak point & shoot camera and the "Radioman camera arm." We stopped in Taos for lunch, then went out US64 and over the Brazos. We stopped in "the normal place" but then Bart enlightened me to another place that he likes to stop, so we took a photo: We got into Pagosa Springs at about 5pm or so and intended to push on to Gunnison, but as we pulled out of the gas station, my bike started cutting out, CEL coming on, dials sweeping back and forth like at start up. Weird, right? So, we stopped for the night there in Pagosa Springs and worked on the bike. Discovered it was the ECM. It had a crack in it. A known flaw. In spite of the "special" mount that BMC implemented as a fix, it still didn't support the thing well and the pressure of someone sitting on the seat eventually cracked it. So, we zip tied it together, moved it to a less stressful position, and tested it out. Works great! Jody trucked his CR to our hotel in Pagosa and arrived at like 9pm or something. Saturday, we got up early and found that the outside temperature was 37F. We walked to the nearby restaurant for breakfast, got ready to go, and were on the road before 0800. We headed toward Durango where we intended to turn north. On the road to Durango, we saw all kinds of weird stuff. First, a "sheep dog" had corralled a goat on the side of the road, a deer almost walked into Bart (who had no idea) but when I beeped my horn at it, it turned around and walked away. And then there was the smoke! There was a small wild fire nearby and the smoke was evident along US160 for a couple miles. Then we turned northward on US550 toward Silverton. Part of that route took us over Coal Batch Pass (no photos) and Molas Pass: And then Bart decided to aid Colorado's drought conditions by contributing some of his water: We pressed on to Silverton, passing one of the most annoying motorists EVER! Surprised I don't have a photo. This lady was hard on the brakes 100% of the time, going about 20mph and building quite a line of cars behind her. We, of course, powered past quickly on the one straight-ish section we could find. We trolled the shops of Silverton looking for decals for the panniers. Only one photo: Then, it was on to Ouray (apparently pronounced: oooo-ri), where, despite my best photo efforts, I failed to get a photo of the fattest woman I'd ever seen getting off a huge Honda and, with her arms over her head, took her helmet off. Her pale yellow shirt looked flesh colored from 200 yards away. I think I'm going to need therapy. She had to be 500lbs. Meanwhile, I did get some photos along The Million Dollar Highway over Red Mountain Pass: Then, in OOOO-Ri: From there, we rode north through Ridgeway and into Montrose, stopping for lunch. Then, we rode out of Montrose to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park so I could get my book stamped: Jody was being adventurous: There be water down there! And you can see for miles and miles! On the way out of the park, we got a great view to the south: Heading further north toward Clifton, east of Grand Junction, we ran into "fresh oil" on the road: Then, heading north, the scenery changed to a more open landscape: Then, as we got onto the freeway to go east, you could see the cool landscapes: We had to make an unscheduled pit stop for fuel in a cool little town called Palisades: We saw an unusual monument: Then, back to the freeway, eastbound and down! We got off on CO65 and headed south. This was a pretty cool road: So, after weaving through some desert-like canyons, the road climbs up to a pretty good and cool elevation: Here's Bart setting up his photo: So this road took us south west or so along the north rim if the Black Canyon. I didn't see it because I was focusing on the road so intently! Anyway, we then turned back east as we wound our way toward Gunnison: The landscape changed rapidly, from open plains: To forests: To farm lands: Close up of Jody: Then, we got onto CO92 which heads roughly Southeast toward Gunnison. There was a cool mountain lake that we passed. Water level was low: Stopped for some photos: At some point, we stopped in a little town who's name I forget, but apparently we were right near Joe Cocker's bar: By this time, it was deer-thirty and I was really looking out for them. Bart didn't see this one walk out behind him. It's hard to see in this series of three photos but the deer crosses from left to right: So, it was getting late and we were going from light to shadow... a lot. So, we get into Gunnison and discover that the ENTIRE TOWN is sold out of hotel rooms because of some bicycle rally. Imagine, pedaling your fat ass over a mountain! Instead of riding?!? So, we end up north of town at the Rocky River Resort. I didn't get any photos of it, but Bart did. (I don't have them.) At dinner, Bart looked tired after his 450-500 mile day: Jody looked like Jody: Jody was really trying to flirt with our 14 year old waitress. OK, she might have been 17. And a half. On Sunday, we got up and rode for just a short day compared to Saturday. We ate in town where Jody accosted another waitress and then we headed out past the Curecanti National Recreation Area. I couldn't find the visitor center to get my book stamped. Then, going south, the landscape changed a bit from flat and open to forested: Heading into Lake City, my camera battery crapped out. Here is my last photo from Sunday: So, we finished Sunday in Pagosa Springs again. Nothing special to report. I charged my camera and as we left on Monday, I got some photos of Bart as we rode back to the Albuquerque area down US84 and past Abiquiu Lake: And coming down US550: http://cjrodden.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Colorado-J une-11-2012/i-mCN2zdC/0/M/017-M.jpg} When I got back to town, Luis called and wanted to ride. It was only noon-time, so I went to meet him and ride Sandia Crest. This wasn't too bad, but my left fork seal was still blown and my ECM was acting up. Luckily, there was a couple of cops who kept Luis slow where I could keep up with him: Overall, a great bunch of days!! |

wow... sounds like a ton of riding. Great pictures and great story! How many miles in total? We (Buellnick, XGman, myself[with passenger], and another) went on a shorter ride this last Saturday up to Sipapu and Mora. We started in Bernalillo at the Flying star and headed up old 66 to Algodones where we jumped on 25 to Santa Fe. We then got on 599 (Santa Fe relief rt)and hooked up with 285 into Espanola and then off to Embudo. From Embudo we headed through Dixon on 75 to Sipapu where we stopped at the lodge to take a quick break.
It was still too early for lunch, so we decided to continue onto Mora where we stopped to see some alpacas and look at some scenery.
From the Alpacas, we headed back on 75 to Sipapu for lunch. While stopped we ran into Roger Pattison who is the head of Aerostitch Tours. He sat with us for a while and handed out his card and (like any good business man) told us to check out his website and look at some of the tours he has coming up. After leaving the restaurant, we headed West on 75 and hooked up with the high road which we took to Chimayo and then turned off toward Pojoaque.
From there we returned via NM14 through Madrid and Cedar Crest. Not quite as long and full of sights as your trip, but nice none the less. (Message edited by agfish18 on June 13, 2012) |

Adam, great ride! Ours was around 1200 miles for four days, but the big day was Saturday with nearly 500. What bike was Nick riding? Looks like some sort of F800 beemer. Maybe we can do a local ride this weekend. I'll be around. |

I've seen chat about a Buell Rally in Taos later this summer. Can someone provide details? My wife Carol and I both ride Buells and participated in several Buell/Chick's sponsered rallys in Taos and they were great! Bob in Rio Rancho |

Yes, Bob... Actually I've been working on that. It's set for August 17, 18, & 19. The typical program is to ride up on Friday, meet up and socialize in the evening. Group ride Saturday, usually on some loop ride with a pre-determined lunch stop. Socialize at a group dinner on Saturday, and ride home on own Sunday. I haven't quite nailed down the exact location yet. I was out scouting a few things in Colorado last weekend and I'm thinking that Pagosa Springs is high on the list. I will post here when there's a final plan. We're not as good at planning months in advance. Let me know if you have questions. Cheers! |

Re: the Rally... We need a place to sleep and have breakfast and dinner. The rest of the time we are on the road. How about Angel Fire/Eagle Nest area, Sipapu, or Chama which is close to the CO border and has numerous hotels and campgrounds... These places are "off-season" in August and we might be able to get decent lodging rates (as apposed to Pagosa Springs tourist trap). As you know, there's some good riding along these locations/roads. |

Adam, you were curious as to what color I was painting the S2 frame and wheels:
There it is, metallic candy blue frame and wheels, still has the original pearl white bodywork... Heading out to the S2 gathering in the Ozarks today, y'all have a good weekend!!! |

WOW, looks nice! I want to paint my frame and wheels that color... dont want to take apart the bike long enough to do it though...and unless I had someone helping me who knew what they were doing, I'd probably have spare parts after putting it back together, and that is never a good thing |

J2... Did you order a brake rotor, or the charging system rotor? I guess I was under the assumption it was a brake rotor... but would make more sense if it was the charging system rotor since you have a CR. |

Yes, charging system rotor! Someone else asked me that in the Colorado section. Funny, but I may also need a new brake rotor. After I completely clean the brake rotor I'll see. |

Just got back from the S2 gathering in Arkansas, had a great time, the roads were amazing!
Had a great time! As you can see, although it is about the beautiful S2's, many other brands, and models showed up. Next year is either going to be in the finger lakes of New York, or in Oregon... |

Adam, were you at the races yesterday? I swear I saw you but I didn't see Stacey. I was up in the booth with Ed at the end of ULGP and looked like you walking toward the pits. I looked around but didn't see you and then I left. |

Changed out my alternator rotor today. Pretty straight forward, took about 4 hours. My stator looked good, only about 850 miles on it since it was replaced last September. I'm thinking a ride around the enchanted circle is in order to test it out |

LOL, none, no extra HP, Jody. I was pretty hungover from Saturday nights festivities. Most of the riders left Sunday, I figured I could get back, get some much needed rest, and get the CR done today, and relax the rest of the week. I will probably ride in state this weekend, but am thinking of coming up the 6th for a couple days of fun. What's your schedule looking like? |

Yeah, I was at the races...and Stacey was there too. We were hanging out at #624's (Eric Cooper) pit. I was not racing... |
