So here is what I got right now  When my WileyCo canister disassembled itself for the 3rd time I decided to replace it with something a little more solid. I purchased a Flowtech Red Hot Glasspack from Jegs for $17.99  http://www.jegs.com/i/Flowtech/387/50250/10002/-1?parentProductId= I cut the tube off on the back end for clearance, painted it with silver grill paint, and reused the 90 degree elbow and hanging strap from the WileyCo exhaust. I know it is heavier, doesn't sound as crisp as I would like, but for the price and durability of the solid steel construction, you can't go wrong. As far as performance, I am not doing track days or trying to collect tickets, so it more than meets my needs. Now I am toying with the idea of replacing it with a straight 2" pipe and utilizing an aftermarket baffle. | ||

Louder than stock,but quieter than a V&H or D&D. I now wish I would have put it on backwards as that may have made it crisper. The inside is like a monster cheese grater and it devours the crackle. I like a little more bark. However for $18 I can easily pick up another one! I actually put a straight pipe inside half of it over the winter and have yet to test it out, but I might get that chance tomorrow. | ||

I was also wondering about the straight-back exhaust...does it have any effect on the rear tire?...the pro-race muffler on my '98 Lightning is angled at the end so that the exhaust exits to the left...does the hot exhaust going straight back have any effect on the rear tire, or is that just an imaginary problem? | ||

Don't know if the straight back exhaust has any effect on the back tire, but it is how my Lightning S1W is set up with a home made body stuffed with Vance and Hines guts and I have yet to notice any problems. | ||

My s1 has a white brothers that dumps straight back and no issues i could see if you are running a very soft race tire it would effect it | ||

You inspired me. So I tried a 2" straight pipe put into my cut off elbow-loudish but not terrible, less pop and crackle than I expected. Then before I got done with a permenant install it fell out and the sound didn't change enough to notice while riding. So I went to a friends muffler shop and we put this together Sorry for the image quality my batteries died after the first shot. Sound is quieter, but still a nice tone and never going to be mistaken for anything but a V-twin; power went up a tad if my ass dyno is to be believed and the muffler resonator has no packing, just a internal baffling that is still pretty much straight thru. We welded on the polished stainless tip turned out away from the tire and welded on the old hanger but it could be done without this extra effort. Thanks for the idea!  | ||

nice looking too. What kind of muffler did you use? Did you use the factory elbow cut off from the stock muffler or did you have to weld a new one on? | ||

Factory elbow cut off. Cheap ass no name resonator with a stainless turn out tip welded on and then a coat of cheap black paint. Factory rear hanger welded on without modification. It actually is much quieter that the gutted muffler that was on there before. Sorry I can't tell you the brand, as I said a friend owns a muffler shop and I just looked at his stock, saw it and decided to try it. | ||

Here is a follow up, I now have 1,500 miles on this exhaust. No issues, it has worked great all summer. | ||
