Okay I have a 2003 XB9R and just found out that it's a CA model and I live in Maryland. What is the difference btween the CA model and the World model?

Most likely there's a charcoal evaporation canister that filters the fumes from the tank. It can be removed. Besides that I'd gamble to say there's nothing different.

evapo can only diff,easily removed.

I think there are basically three models.

California... as described above

49 state model, no canister

world (maybe just a euro) model... additional low wattage bulb in headlight reflector (at least on the S, some sort of running light) and the euro model, at least the British version the HP is dumbed up a few ponies and uses a different ECM.

As best I know anyway

The canister is no big thing unless your REALLY serious about weight and its not much. Its buried in the Rs tail bodywork and my be hard to get to.
Doesn't effect performance at all UNLESS you let gas get above the bottom of the gas tank filler neck. If that happens bike runs like crap and gives a trouble code for a couple of minutes but will run normal after it sucks all the raw gas back outta the cannister. Yea I did it.
