Hi. Do I really need the countershaft gear support plate,as mentioned in the service manual,to press out the countershaft? Somebody SUCCESSFUL tried to press out the cs without the plate? If it is inevitable to use it,where can I get this plate,or is it difficult to build one? Never saw a picture of it.How does it look like? Thanks for clues,Ralph |

The center race which is in contact with shaft needs to be supported while you're pressing out the shaft. Without the H-D support plate you need two steel blocks of the same height to support the inner race equally from opposite sides while the press forces the shaft out. If they aren't the same height or irregular you risk scrapping the bearing. |
