Couple of questions on doing a static timing adjustment : 1) There are 2 procedures posted above - one says the LED should be on, the other says it should be off. So… which is it??? 2) Does it matter if the bike is in 5th or Neutral after the TDC mark is centered? 3) If I can roll the bike in 5th w/ the spark plug still in (w/ a little muscle) - do I really need to pull the plug & jack up the back wheel? 4) In order to get the LED to light, I need 4 things to happen : Key turned on, Kill switch in run, Kickstand up, and TDC centered in hole. If I moronically forget to put the kill switch to run OR leave the kickstand down : the LED won't light. Correct? Thanks. |

They are both correct, if in doubt, do not use the "alternate method" . Or use the one found in the Blast repair manual (which is the first 'doc' listed). Doesnt matter which gear the bike is in, in fact the transmission doesnt even need to be in the engine! However, if you find the timing isnt anywhere close, turn the crankshaft one full turn. (The cam gear turns 1/2 revolution for every 1 crankshaft revolution and the timing runs off the camshaft gear). Either way is fine. Its just easier to 'bump' the engine with the wheel off the ground. That is correct, (though I never thought about which gear because I've already disabled the kickstand safety switch). Or put the bike in neutral and leave the kickstand down. Though the TDC mark doesnt have to be in the hole. It will light up anywhere you put the mark (if you could turn the module that far), but the bike wont be timed correctly. |

Let me make sure I understand Are saying that I can roll the bike in neutral & the mark will show up in the window? If I can't get the light to light, roll it more until the mark comes around again? |

No, you can not roll the bike in neutral and get the crank to turn. Static timing, the LED will be going off when the TDC mark is in the window. |

Ok, so the bike is in 5th, the kickstand is up or bypassed, the key and kill switch are on, tdc is in window. If Led doesn't lIght when i move module then turn wheel til tdc comes around again and it should come on then when I move module Right? |
