I only have one piece of carbon fiber left on my S2, the rest is long gone. It is the hamcan air cleaner, PO said it was cracked by one of the holes so he bondoed it up and painted it black!

Anyone have any recommendations on how to safely remove the paint so I can see what's going on? And anyone know where I might possibly be able to get an air cleaner insert to cover up the damaged hole? I think that would look better than this monstrosity!!

I'd stay away from any chemical paint remover as I'll bet that will trash the resin on the CF. The PO may have sanded the cover the get the black paint to stick. Maybe something like "goof-off" or other mild solvent, maybe even try lacquer thinner or acetone. Test inside on a small patch. See what it does to the resin.
If I remember right, the one on my wife's S2T had a pretty thick resin coat on the outside.
If yours has been sanded, After the paint is off, I'd carefully re-sand with finer and finer papers until it actually polishes the finish. You could always put a new resin coat over the final sanding to make it glossy again.

Please note - I'm just throwing these suggestions out - I HAVE NOT tried this!!

I gave what was left of the CF unit that was on her bike to the buyer when she sold it - effing Quicksilver CA carb caught fire and came close to incinerating that bike. The cover was, well, 'toast'!

Yeah, I was thinking laquer thinner or acetone, I literally pealed layer after layer of paint off of Mad Max that way until I got down to the original paint. Wasn't sure what it would do to the CF. Judging from the "workmanship" on the rest of the bike, I truly doubt that the PO sanded anything, actually I'm betting on it!

How good are you with polish and epoxy when done?

Do you have a bench grinder with a wire wheel, and a steady hand? Physical removal may work best, especially if you can sand/refinish the base material once the "color coat" is removed.
