I don't remember my previous buckle guard having any plastic with it...

...Dave, I'm gonna need some of the new Buell frame pucks when you get back from vacation, too! Curse Dana and his posting...if only he'd done that 5 minutes earlier!

I think the plastic piece is the template to put it on your cover good and straight. Thats the only thing I can think of that you might be talking about.

what is the buckle guard made of ?
Does the piece go between the air box cover and the air filter cover to keep it from flexing ?
Just a thought...

My buckle guard is a brushed aluminum and it came with a template with a mild adhesive. Put the template on, then put the guard on, then remove the template. The guard has some major adhesive on it. Once its on its on.

I don't know what else he might be talking about, could be a different guard.

The aluminum one is the one being talked about. It goes on the outside of the airbox cover(the colored one you see) and protects it from scratches from your jacket zipper.

Dave
I have them in stock by the way!

Does anybody have any idea what the easiest way to get one of them back off the bike would be. I must have rubed against it with my belt buckle and now have a really ugly scratch across it.

I'd try to take a hair dryer to it to warm it up real good and then pry it off. A little "Goo be gone" and you'll be ready to install a new one.

LOL...that's what it's THERE for! Mine's had a nice big scratch in it since the day after I bought it...better it than the airbox cover.
