Hello. I'm new to this site and i'm hoping I can get a little help with an issue I've been I have a 2000 Cyclone that I purchased last spring. The bike ran well until last fall when the header cracked. I figured this was a good time to take the bike apart to fix a few things. When putting the bike back together I found I had a wiring problem (my fault) that lead to replacing the regulator/rectifier. I made a few smaller changes to the tail light and flashers, replaced the headlight and windscreen, wrapped the headers, replaced the instrument panel lights and so on. Now since I finished all the minor repairs and got the bike running a new problem has developed. The bike starts and idles fine and rides nice for a little while. Usually after a few miles on my way to town, which is about 5 miles, the bike spits and sputters and will eventually just shut off. Once I pull over and come to a stop the bike will usually start back up again and go for a little ways again before it happens again. I have searched past threads trying to diagnose this so I don't bother you guys, especially if this has been answered. The only thing that I've found that seems close to my problem suggests resetting the "tps?" Does anybody think this its the problem or have any other suggestions? I will add that the last time it happened the bike took a little longer than normal to start back up so I decided to check the tank to make sure I had gas. When I removed the cap there was a loud suction noise that was released. I immediately tried starting the bike without the cap on and it fired right up. Possibly a coincidence? |

There is a venting tube leaving the tank from the ring surrounding the gas cap. It should run beneath the tank along the frame to the back. Make sure it's not restricted somewhere. |

As 13was13 said your symptom suggests that you have pinched the fuel tank breather tube. just take the breather tube off the top of the tank where the gas cap is and see if the problem persists,if it's OK then take the tank off and make sure the breather tube is not pinched. |

Thanks guys! I pulled the breather tube from the gas cap and pulled it a little. The tube did seem pinched a little. I was able to get some play in the line and I used an air compressor to make sure that I didn't have any noticeable breaks or leaks in the line. I rerouted the line and started the bike and let it idle for about 5 minutes. Everything seemed fine but I wasn't able to test drive it as it's pretty crappy here in Wisconsin. Hopefully this is the last of my problems. Thanks again. |

I would be willing to say that the breather or vent tube is your problem. About 99%. Also you do not have a TPS because your Buell is carbureted, not fuel injected. TPS = throttle position sensor. Good luck and let us know how it ends up. |

This must have been the problem. I rode for about 75 miles today without the bike stalling out or coughing. Thanks a lot for all the help. The only thing now is the bike was backfiring quite a bit towards the end of the ride. Guess it's back to the drawing board again. Lol. Thanks again for the help!! |

By backfiring do you mean out the carb or out the exhaust? |

Replace exhaust gaskets. That is probably why it's backfiring. Clean out all the old gasket mat'l from the exhaust port. CAREFUL---Header studs are easily broken off. Soak all four down good with RUST EATER and let penetrate for some time. Patience grasshopper! |

Backfiring is definitely from the exhaust. I know firsthand about the exhaust studs breaking. When attempting to remove the headers last fall I broke one. This initially caused me to take my bike apart a little at a time to gain access to get the bolt out. I will get new gaskets and replace. Thanks |

I'd get them from your local HD dealer if they are close by. Otherwise, call Al at American Sport Bike |
