What CC are the other bikes, think I spotted a R6 but it's hard to tell in race trim ? Can someone explain why the 1125 was always competing against 600's, I'm not clues up with race regs etc. |

> Can someone explain why the 1125 was always competing against 600's Only in AMA. Daytona Sport Bike is a formula class designed to allow a broad range of bikes to compete. In addition to 600cc inline-4 bikes, the 1,000cc Aprilia is allowed, the 1170cc BMW HP-2, the 675cc 3-cyl Triumph and so on. There will always be controversy whenever formula classes are in place in any kind of racing, and the Buell's placement in DSB was no exception. Personally, I think it was perceived worse because not a single one of the other bike types ever made a significant showing, so it looked a lot like the Buell did get special treatment. So, it developed a perception of being a "600 class", even though it wasn't/isn't. I also think it's fair to argue the 1125r had certain advantages, but it's worth noting the only rider to win on the Buell also won the class on a 600, and no other rider on any bike other than a 600 did well. Long story with a lot of vitriol on both sides of the argument if you are interested in the history of it. |

what are the specs on shawn's bike? what does it make for power, what does it weigh, and what general modifications have been done? |

>>> I also think it's fair to argue the 1125r had certain advantages... If you want to be fair, you'd also need to argue certain disadvantages (poor aerodynamics, higher minimum weight, and spec tires designed for lighter 600 cc IL4s) |

>>>>>> I also think it's fair to argue the 1125r had certain advantages... That's accurate. They, the rules making folks who know far more than I, worked hard in an attempt to balance those very advantages with the disadvantages in an effort to create parity in the racing. It seems apparent they've done well and they are to be admired for constantly, during the course of a season, having a vehicle to reevaluate and rebalance. Racing has become fun again with so many marques in the top 10. |

Thanks jdugger, that was the best explanation of DSB and some of the issues involved. Blake ~ Do these spec tires have any similarity to the street versions we ride on? Court ~ when you said reevaluate and rebalance, does that mean mid season rules changes? |

> to be fair, you'd also need to argue certain disadvantages Or just the fact only one rider was ever successful on the Buell, and that same rider won the class on a 600. |

> Do these spec tires have any similarity to the street versions we ride on? They are available to you. They are the "GP-A" Dunlop DOTs. They are a race tire, so they are better than a street tire in terms of grip. But, the ones used in AMA are nothing like the UK-Sourced Dunlop GP DOT N-Tec tires so many in the club racing ranks swear by. |

>>> Blake ~ Do these spec tires have any similarity to the street versions we ride on? The best answer is probably that your street tires would hurt laps times through race distance to the tune of seconds per lap. Like JD says, you can purchase the special DOT race tires too. Not at all advisable for use on the street. They wear out too quickly and are thought to get up to optimum temperature. |
