I have a black magnesium front wheel that I got from E.B.R. and would like to change its color to gold. How would I go about doing that?

whatever happens to the wheel you most likely will need to strip the black paint off.

translucents use a reflective base like silver and then the tint. If you want solid pigment you could anodize, ceramic coat, epoxy coat, automotive finishes....

Should be regular chem strip then repaint. Not sure if powder coated or not.

powder coating is probably your best bet. and they'll have a bead/sand blaster to strip the old finish off as well. i know it sucks paying someone else, but any kind of painted-on finish is just not going to last long. especially on wheels.

Powder coating sounds heavy. This wheel is going on a 450 super single which I would like to keep as light as possible.

The rear wheel will be aluminum. If I have both wheels bead blasted and leave the natural finish won't I have two different colored wheels, one aluminum and one magnesium?

All the pictures you see of the Roland Sands 450 singles have gold wheels. They look really good but I didn't think weight until considering powder coating.

I like the idea of using the Buell front end because I'm thinking it could be lighter than the alternatives. Now how can I have something that looks good and is light weight too?

If lightness and strength are important, anodizing actually hardens the surface.

Powder doesn't add to the weight. You remove the old paint/powder and put new on. The profile thats put on the wheel also removes a tiny bit as well. At a 1mil coat (which is the recommended thickness) you are putting on about an ounce and a half if that. If you do it yourself with paint, DO NOT use any form of chemical stripper for more than five minutes or so as it will weaken the magnesium. Before and after of magnesium wheels with powder.
