Are they the same or compatible between the lightning and the uly ?

I put uly handlebars on my S model so I had to get a clutch cable from a Uly as well.

Darn it the cable stickout is way too long on the Uly clutch cable so I'm thinking mybe the perch and lever are to blame...

Any help is apreciated.

All 03-10 XB models use the same clutch perch and lever, only difference is some models are black while some are silver. The clutch cables are of the same design too, with the Uly one just being longer to reach the higher bars. All of your Lightning components should just carry over, you would just need the longer throttle/brake/clutch cables.

Perhaps your clutch cable isn't routed correctly?

The routing of the cable is not going a significant difference in wire/cable stickout.

If I put both cables side by side and I bottom out on end of the wire, the difference in stickout of the wire is 3/4 of an inch.

I' starting to think the cable I bought is out of spec... if that is even possible.

I bough it directly from Harley.

Don't forget the Uly's frame is longer/larger also.

You probably need to stick to the stock Lightening cable and re-route it to get a little more length.

I did that on my City-X for a set of four wheeler bars that were three inches wider and three inches higher. I think I ran the cable up the left side of the steering head with some zip ties.

Routing and cable lenght has nothing to do with this. The cable could be 10ft long and work flawlessly.

The WIRE INSIDE the Uly clutch cable is 3/4 of an inch longer than it should be to work.

When the lever touches the handlebar the cable hasnt even begun to pull on the clutch.

You are right, that does not seem to make sense. But couldn't the stock one work if radically moved from it's stock retainers?

This is probably a dumb question, but have you adjusted the cable under the accordion looking boot by the front of the engine?

Yes I tried that and quickly ran out of threads.

That's what promted my inquiry about the perch and levers...

I think maybe the cable I was sent was out of spec.

I dont want to buy a second one just to find out.

I would say you have a faulty clutch cable there Jfman. There's no way you should have that much slack between the inner cable and the outter jacket. But I know, what a hassle, to have to take that one back and order a new one......

Return it as defective. I've bought parts before that had the right labels on them, box labeled correctly, but was the wrong part. Your part is defective, the dealer should exchange it no questions asked.

Froggy: were those parts from HD or aftermarket?

Problem is I bought that cable over 3 years ago. Then I moved out of the country...

On top of that I'm not even 100% sure the cable is out of spec. For all know I'm the only one who has installed uly bars are cables on his S model.

Looks like I'gonna be buying a secon new cable this week unless I find some info telling me the problem comes from somewherelse...

From HD.

Well, that might be an issue, I'm not sure.

You aren't. I did it, lasted about 5 minutes before I figured out that it was the worst thing I could of done to the bike, then I went back to stock. Assuming your cables weren't defective it should all just work.
