It's event like these that define a person and helps them put things into priority for them. Glad your OK and that you are surrounded by people who care and whom you care for. Decisions like the one you made are not easy but important. |

Glad you made it through, Marcos. Good luck on your recovery. I totally empathize regarding the loved ones. I had a fairly bad wreck about 2 years ago. Nothing broken, thank God. The worst part of that was when my wife and son came to see me in the hospital, I was about to cry because I felt so bad for what I had put them through. It was the Sunday before Father's day. I know I freaked them out too because (they told me) I just kept asking the same 3 questions over and over. What happened? Did they catch the other guy? (No they didn't, no thanks to the dopes at the County Sheriff's Office). How's my bike? Stick with the rehab, sounds like you have a long hard road to travel but you can do it. |

Why does the word get turned into little red dots? It's not profanity or anything. |

Marco- Recovery/Rehab is a marathon not a sprint so make sure to pace yourself. Sometimes your progress may plateau for a while and it will seem like you are not getting anywhere...try not to get discouraged at these times. Set attainable goals and work towards them. Baby steps are still progress and your mindset has an impact on how well you do. Good luck. |

Holy guacamole . . . I just read this. IT sounds like the list of undamaged body parts totals about 3! I've got good news. I think you're making a smart decision. The mental trauma of what you've been through would rob you of both concentration and the ability to enjoy motorcycling going ahead. We rude for fun, take that away and you have to rethink the equation. The other bit of good news is that there is no "must own or ride motorcycle" entry requirement here. We want you to stick around. In fact, we really NEED you to stay around. There is not better teacher than experience. Your words, as you explained your accident, speak volumes and there's a pretty good chance you've already prevented someone from being injured by sharing your experience and acquired wisdom. For now . . , keep healing, rehabing and telling folks in your life you love 'em. Us ? . . we'll all be here waiting for you . . but please stick around. Court |

Wow that's unbelievable story.....sorry to hear, wish you a quick and healthy recovery. Never been down on a bike but had a few close calls really makes you think when you climb on your bike. A year ago I hit a dip in the road and ended up in a tank slap from hell for about 100 yards, shook my bike so violent that it threw the kick stand down , forced brake pistons back(had no brakes) and turned on the low oil light. Headed straight home to change my pants. That day I decided I was going on a easy ride, and didn't wear my gear, I never leave home without it now. |

I just went down 3 weeks ago from too much air pressure in my rear on a left off camber turn only lost a mirror on my little field trip. Too many years of Mt.biking saved my life. When I hit that grass I was ready... When I jumped my 1125r off a 5 foot down hill incline and stuck the landing... I was ready for it. Layed her down in the dirt then got backup and rode another 2 hours. Thought that was goona end a lot worse!!! God speed to you brother. And Good luck staying away. We won't say "WE TOLD YOU SO" when you go back to riding. Lol Love you man!!! Stay strong. We need you too!!! |

Thanks for all the love, guys. I have actually found it hard to avoid sneaking back here from time to time... I will, when I have nothing better to think about, post a bunch of parts for sale, from rashed plastics to some cool aftermarket stuff. But I can't even get to them till I can walk, and it would be silly to advertise them before I can deliver. My recovery continues, slow but steady. I am actually scheduled to go back to school, in the wheelchair, this Tuesday 4/10/12. It's kind of an experiment --- I'm poised to bail out if I can't tolerate it --- but it's just once a week, 4 hours including a couple breaks. I'm optimistic. I learned something new last week. Although I had gathered on the way to the hospital that my life was in jeopardy, my wife informed me that, after, my first surgery, the surgeon told her that he had been doubtful he could save my shattered leg until he actually went in and did it. Continued gratitude on that point, let me tell ya... Finally, I do continue to grieve the end of my riding, but my decision is firm, notwithstanding my words to my wife that I think I could ride safer if I have an 1190... Love you all, Marco |

Ha. A bit of what I'm calling bad news yesterday. Perhaps very good news for one of you: Insurance called and let me know that, despite the damage estimate which is far in excess of $6K, they are NOT calling the bike a total. They say market value is upwards of $8k; they declined my request to mail me a sample of whatever mushroom they had eaten prior to coming up with that idea... So here's the thing: I can spend the insurance check fixing the bike, and then sell it for much less. Or I can sell it quick, as is, and keep the insurance check plus whatever a rolling wreck with a clean title is going for. I'd like to propose the latter. I'd only want to consider buyers willing to pick the bike up in Riverside, CA (Skip Fordyce HD, a great dealer, FWIW). The bike has a bunch of extras I believe to be undamaged, including a GPR stabilizer, Jardine exhaust in carbon fiber, EBR ECM calibrated for the exhaust, and more. I also have, in my own garage, more excellent-condition aftermarket and OEM parts (including CF airbox cover, stock exhaust, and Deluxe Touring pillion seat), a bunch more takeoffs including rashed plastics from my first, lesser, crash, etc. Look, I'm not really interested in donating all this stuff, but I'm not looking to make a mint on it either --- it's essentially an unpleasant reminder of something I'm not especially interested in remembering. Make me an offer on it, and I'll meet you at the dealer with the pink slip. Best offer, regardless of the amount, in a week or two takes it. (Message edited by marcodesade on April 10, 2012) |
