OK so I had new rear tire put on my 03blast that is in quite rough shape mileage unkown previous owner was using it like a dirt bike lol. I bought it for 300 bucks as it ran and shifted through all the gears. took it to the house pulled the motor trans. and carb apart and cleaned/ checked everything put back together. really in surprisingly good running condition. had water in the Trans needed new boot spark plug and wire. also cleaned the tank. has v&h exhaust and currently an makeshift custom air filter lol (carb is supported and filtered) so I rejetted to what yall specified and it runs really well first gear is a bi*** and likes to lurch will do new clutch soon.anyway I had a new tire on the rear it's a dunflop k630 130/80/16 and i noticed that it almost immediately started getting wear down the center. double checked saw no rub marks or vibrations while riding. any who 250 miles later it is showing some wear but not anything to b alarmed about. at least in my newbie to motorcycle mind lol.it really wasn't that bad still had plenty of tread jus a lot less in the middle. always rode around town and check tire pressure before each ride. today took the blast up the highway at 75 80 and after about 30 miles it fails at highway speeds. no wreck how I do not no. tire looks lIke I just let it eat in a burnout until failure.surely has to be rubbing check and no signs at all of anything of the sort. what happened? |

What was the tire pressure before that ride? Center tread wear often means too high of pressure. |

One possibility is the tire was not properly 'cured' from the factory. Not likely, but possible, especially considering the catastrophic failure. A lot of tires today are directional - there is an arrow on the tire sidewall for direction of rotation - and if it were installed backwards, that might contribute to excess wear and/or failure. If you are in the habit of downshifting and letting the clutch out to use engine compression to slow down for curves, stop lights, ect, that will lead to rear tire wear. Hope this helps, Dave |
